CURRENT MISSION
To heal myself and inspire others
ABOUT ME
I'm Kay in Hong Kong (that's my logon name, KAYINHK, get it?). My friends say I'm loving, courageous, inspiring, intelligent, witty, talented, loyal, a good leader, generous...but of course sometimes I can be the opposite of all that. I'm Scottish-born, Australian-bred, and have lived in HK since September 1993. I'm self-employed and do lots of volunteer stuff too. I love giving and receiving foot massages. I'm 1.5m, 50kg, with short red curly hair, and I wear glasses.
I'm on twitter, so tweet me good at http://twitter.com/kayross
PHILOSOPHY
See only love. I know that when I trust in a higher power and behave in line with universal laws, my life flows with more ease and grace and joy.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted lots of people (only one at a time); was a City Ambassador for Hong Kong; have served as a Moderator of our Hong Kong CS online group; welcome new members; meet visiting Couchsurfers; organise and attend gatherings; answer queries about life in Hong Kong (but hey, I'm not a travel agent or an employment consultant); tell everyone I meet about Couchsurfing; write articles about CS; promote CS to local and international journalists (I'm a marketing consultant, copywriter and editor). I even promote Couchsurfing in my stand-up comedy act at the TakeOut Comedy Club in Hong Kong.
Along with some other Hong Kong members/hosts and my CS guest Katrina, I was interviewed about CS for a local TV show called "Inside Story" (in English). It was broadcast on November 20, 2007.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've been a CouchSurfing guest (with Jordan in Los Angeles in July 2006; with Natasha in Boston and Nikola in New York City in May 2007; with Sandy in Macau in June 2007; with Elayne and then Pascale/Jeremy/Blake in Honolulu in September 2007; with Brenda in Tucson, Arizona, in May 2008; with Jacopo in Seminyak, Bali, in December 2008), with Swapan in Mumbai, India, in August 2010, and with Isabelle in Paris in September 2013. Each time it was great. One other time, I arranged to CouchSurf (in Las Vegas in February 2006), but my hosts didn't show up to meet me and were uncontactable - interesting!
As a CouchSurfing host since October 2005, I've had over 50 people from all over the world stay with me. But hey, that doesn't mean I say yes to every request! And unfortunately, my landlord won't allow me to host CS guests anymore. Before this site was created, I often welcomed international performers at the Hong Kong Fringe Festival to stay on my couch. Also, a long time ago, I stayed with a French girl and her family, and worked with them for a week picking grapes in a small village near Bordeaux.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: "What the Bleep Do We Know?", "The Secret", "Born into Brothels", "Love Actually".
Books: anything to do with spirituality, personal development, quantum physics and the nature of reality, the human brain and mind, or marketing; "Take Me With You" by Brad Newsham, described as "a round-the-world journey to invite a stranger home" - fantastic!; "Pride and Prejudice"; "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson.
Music: Latin-American, trad jazz, world music, Eva Cassidy, just about anything except heavy metal.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
On the night of Hong Kong's handover to China (June 30, 1997), I participated in an event to raise money for a children's charity. For 24 hours I was handcuffed to a stranger of the opposite sex - we had to do everything together: eat, sleep (I mean literally sleep, no hanky-panky), shower, go to the bathroom, go to a party, catch trains...
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: marketing, writing, personal and spiritual development/healing, improv
Learn: computers, bass guitar, parachuting
Share: joy and healing
