About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To understand myself and how I fit into this world
To live wholeheartedly. To teach and learn and create in a way that there is less waste when I am done in this world.

ABOUT ME

I love good food and good company.

The most important things in my life are my family and my dog. I trained my pup to be a therapy dog so that she can come with me to my job as a wilderness therapy guide and help the students with whom I work. I love to hike and bike and kayak and camp and climb. I am also an artist and love to paint. I used to play rugby, and although I no longer play, I still enjoy a good drop tackle every once and again. I love playing games and I love to get up and dance whenever there is music playing (and sometimes when there is not). I love adventures of any nature.

I spend a fair amount of time thinking about power dynamics, institutionalized racism, intersectionality and stigmatization of identities, gender politics, microagressions and the intentionality of our words (etc etc etc). Every job I have ever loved and any employment I plan to pursue in the future has and will be consciously fighting for equality and higher standards of living in some way shape or form. On a semi tangential note, if I had a million dollars (and knew how to navigate the financial side of business) I would start a wilderness therapy program that played off the clubhouse model for underprivileged queer youth.

I am looking to meet people I can laugh with.

PHILOSOPHY

Everything works out in the end. If it hasn't worked out, it's not the end.

There is no relief without accepting the struggle.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I so much value a gift economy. I don't currently have a fixed home so instead share what I can, most often in the form of offering ride shares on my many cross country trips. My van has a bed in the back so I rarely find myself in need of a couch these days but very much enjoy the company when I do!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed while abroad in Australia and it was a wonderful experience. I also spent a wonderful week with a lovely couple in Gettysburg, PA when I was getting my WFR where we made art together every night. I just hope to have the opportunity to surf some more!

Music, Movies, and Books

Warning: This is outdated, but I always have such trouble thinking of "favorites" that i am just leaving it for the moment.

For movies, ah. who knows... most recently movies that I've seen and liked were the king's speech and true grit, short bus is of course a great one, my favorites used to be eternal sunshine of the spotless mind and ma vie en rose, but i havent seen those in years and years. Miyazaki films are always great, and although it is not a movie, I have to throw in Firefly as a favorite to watch.

Music: currently learning guitar with some of the songs on my list Focus by Brown Bird, Ten Feet Tall by The Devil Makes Three, and Rivers and Roads by The Head and The Heart

Books: anything by chuck palahniuk, anything that deals with the science of abnormal psych (e.g. phantoms in the brain), malcolm gladwell's books--unfortunately I never seem to have as much time to read as I would like

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Snorkling in the great barrier reef. Seeing the sun rise after camping though a horrible storm in Maine. Climbing a tree in a snowstorm at night and watching the snow build up around me.

Teach, Learn, Share

Art. Music. Language. Nature. Compassion. Adventure.

I want to learn about traditional cerimony, to make drums, to live sustainably on the land without being nomadic, how to cultivate the community I desire, I want to learn the stories of our ancestors and carry them.

I teach nature crafts and wilderness survival skills, to take what the land gives and recreate. I teach emotional communication to adolescents (and adults)

I share art, guitar, drums
