About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet friendly, outgoing people who are also looking to explore this beautiful world.

ABOUT ME

Hello! Where to begin? Life is great! I have a million + interests, language and people being just a few. I would really love to become completely fluent in French, which I have been learning off and on since I was 11. For a living, I work for an naval engineering company. I'm also a vegan and I LOVE the outdoors. I live in Vancouver Canada, but I'm really from a small town in the country and my heart is always there. I hope to meet a wide variety of people on here to expand my language skills and of course my social realm :) I love to travel and I've been to Korea, Peru, New York, Ireland (LOVE IT!), England, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, and various parts of Canada, Quebec and Nova Scotia being highlights- all my travels have been humbling and beautiful experiences. I was in New York for New Years 2008- what a great experience! Needless to say, I fell in love with the city and I am planning to return one day. I recently spent 3 months in Africa and camped across the continent. Spent time in Egypt, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. After that I headed to Asia and visited Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. I am very open-minded and I think everyone deserves kindness- so no negative people please.

I have just finished my degree in English literature and I have a diploma in Film - writing and production. I am also a group fitness instructor and volunteer weekly at the YMCA to teach classes. Health and fitness are a big part of my life - I love feeling good and love helping others feel good about themselves too.

Cheers,

Kaylin

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Trust is so important in this day and age. I want to create a world community based on the simple concept of love and trust and I think helping people just by making them feel welcome in a new city is a great step towards this.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

While staying in Ireland, Isaac (best host ever!) gave us his bedroom for our entire stay (a week!). He may have missed the date for the BBQ, but he made up for that by taking us on awesome hikes and being an all around great person- He showed us what to strive for when hosting others :o)

Music, Movies, and Books

Fave Music: Sublime is the best band ever to grace this Earth. That being said, many other bands rock my world. Some highlighters include: The Frames, Glen Hansard, Minus the Bear, The Guess Who, Rise Against, 54-40, Apocalyptica, Dead Can Dance, Death Cab For Cutie, Mason Jennings, The Arcade Fire, Badly Drawn Boy, Misfits, CocoRosie, Depeche Mode, Scissor Sisters, Johnny Cash, Jurrasic 5, 311, The Living End, The Mars Volta, Metric, Modest Mouse, Nirvana, The Most Serene Republic, Neverending White Lights, Broken Social Scene, The Offspring, The Hip, REM, Rancid, Pennywise, Portishead, Ramones, Rogue Wave, The Smiths, Sufjan Stevens, The Foo Fighters, Violent Femmes, Pilate, Pearl Jam, Blue October, Bad Religion, Incubus, Jack Johnson, Snow Patrol, Hot Hot Heat, Damien Rice, Mogwai, Kings of Leon, Wilco, Interpol, Ben Harper, David Gray, and the list goes on and on....

Fave Movies: LOTR FOR LIFE!!! Also: American History X, Labyrinth, The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Dial M for Murder, Edward Scissor Hands, Super Troopers, A Fish Called Wanda, The Princess Bride, Benny and Joon, Dirty Dancing, Grease, Ghost, Sleepy Hollow, Peter Pan, The Land Before Time, The Emporer's New Groove, Sinbad, Zoolander, Some Like it Hot, Partition, and the Notebook (yes, I am amware that this is a total chick flick but I'm a chick so I'm allowed to cry every time I watch it).
Favorite Books: LOTR trilogy, of course (and the hobbit!). I have A LOT of fave books, but to touch on just a few: The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice (Blood and Gold is by far the best), His Dark Materials Trilogy by Phillip Pulman, Treasure Island, The Eyes of God, Watchmen (Graphic Novel by Alan Moore), From the Corner of his Eye by Dean Koontz, She Stoops to Conquer (a play by Oliver Goldsmith), Clan of the Cave Bear, and pretty much anything by Roald Dahl, but some definate classics are The Witches, The BFG, James and the Giant Peach, and Matilda.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watching the sun rise at Machu Picchu after hiking through the Andes for 3 days was a completely wordless experience. Also, getting mugged in Cusco but being more freaked out by the police than the actual mugging was quite an experience too! Having an orphan fall asleep in my arms against my chest in Rwanda was a moment I will truly treasure forever as well.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you want to learn to cook some kick-ass vegan/vegetarian meals, let me know! I love making stuff up in the kitchen.

I've also read 1000+ health and nutrition books, so I can give some info on that as well, though I am not officially trained in the area. Being a fitness instructor as well (and spending so much time at the gym) I can offer healthy lifestyle suggestions as well.

Countries I’ve Visited

Botswana, Cambodia, Egypt, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Peru, Rwanda, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam, Zimbabwe

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada
