About Me

Special notice: as I've been getting lots of requests recently and nearly all of them seem to be of the copy/paste variety without more than "Hi Raimonds" indicating that this particular request was sent to me and not somebody else, please notice that you MUST include the number 42 in your request, if you want to be hosted by me.

I read tons of books, watch bizarre films and occasionally listen to strange music. I am a huge fan of bicycles, programming javascript and vector graphics. I make up lists of everything I do. Occasionally I write fiction but usually I just fool around. I don't drink much alcohol and I don't smoke, but I don't mind if others do and don't come with my advice as I don't know better than you.

PHILOSOPHY

I live according to what I believe is right, yet I don't believe that I should be "promoting" my way of life to other people. Live and let live, so to say.
Also - life is a constant competition, however the only person you compete with, is yourself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I can offer my couch to you and I can sleep on your couch. I'm a walking-talking machine of random and usually pointless facts.

I've surfed couches in the following countries: Italy, Finland, Belgium, Poland, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, Croatia, Liechtenstein, Austria, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece.

I've hosted some people:
- 2 lads and 2 gals from Poland
- A Finnish hitchhiker from Oulu
- A German girl from Berlin
- 3 kiwis on a Europe-wide trip
- An Italian world traveler
- A short film director from Poland
- 1 guy from Australia
- 2 girls and 1 guy from Poland
- A guy from Estonia
- A guy from China
- A professional photographer from Italy
- A couple from the States
- A guy from the States

- 2 hitchhikers from the Netherlands
- a couple from Sweden
- 2 girls from Germany
- a girl from Russia
- 2 geocachers from Lithuania
- 2 girls and a guy from Spain

Music, Movies, and Books

music - from Beatles and Stones to Stooges and Clash. From Dead Kennedys to The Kinks. From Louis Armstrong to Bob Dylan. From Black Sabbath to Robert Wyatt. From Pink Floyd to... some more Pink Floyd. In the past few years my list of favourites has been extended by Tom Waits, Serge Gainsbourg and Fairport Convention. Am I mellowing down?
movies - I enjoy European cinema, particularly French films, my favourite film of all time used to be Bunuel's "The discreet charm of the bourgeoisie", British black comedies are also fine.
books - modernism, post-modernism, a bit of sci-fi. Milan Kundera, Kurt Vonnegut, Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, Umberto Eco, Douglas Adams, Svend Aage Madsen, Viktor Pelevin are the first names that come to my mind when talking about books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I tell about the amazing things in person, not on a website. Because I can not show you how big the fish was without using hands.
Not that there really was a fish.

Teach, Learn, Share

1) don't panic
2) A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.
