ABOUT ME

I'm a Circusian. It's a word of my own invention, I made it up to be the Circus equivalent of musician. I'm from Christchurch, New Zealand, trained at Circo Arts, and have been travelling around between NZ and Australia, training, teaching and performing wherever I can. The performing arts are exclusively how I make my living, I do not work outside of them and don't intend to, unless it's really creative.
I'm an old fashioned Romantic of the first water, who dresses daily like a Victorian Dandy, and speaks like one too. I don't drink, smoke or do drugs and place chivalry among my highest values. I live to entertain, being a classically trained violinist and guitarist too. I hope that what I do in life makes myself and others happy. :o)

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't really, hoping to start doing that soon.
I intend to provide reciprocal service, to give as much as I get. My house isn't ideally warm, but at least it is kind.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed across NZ mostly, in Wellington, Auckland, Nelson, Dunedin and Invercargill, and on just a couple of occasions in Melbourne, Australia.
Usually for performances, workshops and training terms that have required me to travel. I can't really justify travelling unless it's for work, because at least that means there's a reason for making such large amounts of financial expenditure.

Intereses

I'm a Contortionist and Mime, therefore I like practising bending and stretching my body alot, and practising facial expressions and interacting with imaginary objects in a mirror, often to expressive instrumental music, be it classical, Romantic, jazz or new age.
I can cook up a nice pizza and Chinese fried rice/vegetables, as well as bake some simple cakes. In fact, sometimes I have stayed at peoples' places where cooking up such things or playing background music on my violin/guitar can either reduce or substitute my rent.

Movies: Dr Dolittle 1967, starring Rex Harrison, Disney's Fantasia, The Mask of Zorro, anything eloquent, Romantic, stylish, musical and swashbuckling.

Music: Debussy, Gilbert & Sullivan, Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Adorney, Yanni, Steely Dan, soft rock bands from the 60's/70's with lots of chords and harmonies, i.e. Chicago, Queen, Little River Band, Pink Floyd, and who could forget the Beatles?

Books: The Magic Faraway Tree series and the Wishing Chair Adventures by Enid Blyton, the Harry Potter series, Ender's Game, and intelligent social books like What's Happening to Our Girls?

I wouldn't call anything I have done or seen amazing by itself, it is simply because other people help make it so. I have folded myself in half, put my head between my legs, played my violin while dancing a tango, doing the splits and bending over backwards, charmed every audience I have performed for with both my onstage and real life persona, which really aren't that different from each other at all, performed for schools to help children keep their morale after the Christchurch earthquakes of February 2011, performed for fundraisers that have sent fellow performers to achieve their training dreams overseas, and I have performed in the first ever New Zealand Circus Awards, celebrating the top Circus talent in our country.

I can teach Stretching and Mime classes, and violin/guitar lessons, both in groups and privately, at different levels, mostly beginner to intermediate, plus I am great at heping create performances and giving constructive critique/feedback to help improve. And I love learning more about how I can teach from my students. Basically, my students help make each individual lesson.
