About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live life with eyes wide open

ABOUT ME

If you asked my best friends about me - hmm... Well, I think they would say that I am a good listener, fun to go out with, and academic. I try really hard to live a balanced life between work, school, and social activities. It doesn't always work, but I try to take responsibility for all of my actions and decisions. People are important to me. A perfect day would be a cozy morning reading a good book with a cup of tea, lunch outside with a friend, a long walk in a new city taking pictures, and then dinner and an evening out with more friends and family. I really love good, serious, long conversations with old friends, new friends, and strangers. I'm not shy, and I love hearing new perspectives and discovering new places. I like to challenge myself, and I am rarely, if ever bored.

PHILOSOPHY

Live a balanced life and don't forget who you are

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

currently surfing, but when I get a place of my own I'd love to host. I also love just hanging out, getting a drink, etc.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Incredible. I could not believe how incredibly open and friendly the group of people I meet always are. I love hearing experiences and discussing everything from life to pop culture, etc. I cannot wait to host people myself and learn from them about their lives and interests.

Interests

I love architecture. I will wander through any town, country, or city and be enthralled by the scenery and how people interact in it. I am not studying architecture, however, but international relations with a focus in international trade. Specifically I would like to get involved in something involving oil and trade with developing countries. I can't wait to see what life brings me after I graduate. Although, admittedly, the "real world" is slightly scary to me still because it is so unknown or foreign to me still.
I also have this habit of reading all the books by a particular author if I like him/her. I tend to go for fiction (mostly classics) over non-fiction, but I love reading current event articles as well. Unlike my limited reading preferences, however, I do have an eclectic taste in music ranging from unknown, local, folk music to pop music, to classical, to native american indian music. I am really open to just about anything, and very rarely am I unwilling to try new things. I will not ever try bungee jumping though. Sorry, it's not going to happen....

Music, Movies, and Books

I always hate these questions because they force me to pick something, but I'll give it a try.
Movies: Atonement (definitely my favorite), When Harry Met Sally, Star Wars, Zoolander, Pride and Prejudice, Gone with the Wind....
Books: Just about any of the classics. I really like Russian literature. I just finished Lolita, which was good and Oranges aren't the Only Fruit. Most distopian novels. Anything by Jane Austen except Emma. The Godfather is one of my favorite. I also like philosophical books. I realize that I am kind of a nerd, sorry.

Music: a lot of acoustic stuff. I tend to have a lot of stuff that's mostly only knwn in certain areas, but not everywhere. I pretty much listen to just about anything though. Not too picky.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 16, I repelled down a castle tower in Wales. It was an amazing experience, especially because I was scared to death of going over the edge initially. I will never forget the feeling of accomplishment that I had when I was half way down.
Of the most awe-inspiring things I've seen - When I lived in Grand Junction, a small town, due to "night pollution" outdoor lights were not allowed to be on after a certain hour. The outcome of this meant that all of the stars were completely visible, including the cloudyness of the Milky Way. Spotting falling stars was a common occurrence. It was so magnificent. I miss it a lot, and have only seen similar "darkness" when camping. Another thing that inspires me is the Ocean. A friend and I went to the Oregon Coast (a generally very cold and misty coastline dotted with large rock outcroppings and sea otters) at midnight one time in the middle of the week in November. Being alone on that beach at night, with city lights in the distance and the waves crashing against the large rocks, has left a lasting impression upon me. I can honestly say it is one of my fondest memories from college.
