About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To survive

ABOUT ME

I became a lawyer in August 2014. I am not ready to grow up and am in a point in my life where I can pick up and leave for a few months... and that's exactly what I'm doing!

My partner, Ben Linaker, and I will be traveling through Europe, particularly the Balkans, down to Turkey, then over to Morocco and up to Portugal and Spain and maybe France to finish it off.

PHILOSOPHY

It's not what happens, it's how it happens.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have both hosted and been hosted.

While I was travelling I relied heavily on those hosts that offered couches last minute requests. I knew that my studies wouldn't allow me to be the best host so during Law school I opened my couch to last minute requests, knowing how important they can be, and had a couple surfers stay with me.

Since moving back North I have not had the time to host due to continued studies and it just being a general transitional life phase. This will change when we return from our trip.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only been hosted through CS twice so far and both time the hosts have been extremely hospitable. I enjoyed seeing the towns/cities from a local's perspective and not feeling pressured to be an extreme tourist.

Since moving to Yellowknife there has been an endless string of friends and acquaintances staying on my couch. It's always a fun time and makes us get out and enjoy our city that we sometimes don't fully appreciate!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Pretty much spending my life in the Northwest Territories - nowhere else in the world provides as amazing opportunities as this place. Here I have met Adam Beach (highlight of my life thus far), the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Canada's Prime Minister (:x), A Tribe Called Red, and the future leaders of Aboriginal groups. I have been able to attend numerous events and conferences on account of my being from here, I have been able to join organisations as a representative of the NWT. It's really one of the greatest places anyone could grow up.

Teach, Learn, Share

Learn: Swimming
One thing I want to do while on this trip: learn to swim - I won't drown when I'm in water, but I'd like to learn proper swimming technique.

Teach: Dreamcatchers
I've recently learned how to make dreamcatchers. I'm maybe not the best at it, but it's a fun, quick craft that makes a really wonderful gift for friends or loved ones.

Share: Yoga
I want to do yoga as regularly as possible while on this trip. I don't do it regularly now, but I always enjoy it when it's integrated into my life and I feel like it will be a good way to spend time with and connect with people while we're travelling.
