About Me

I'm travelling to be in new places and do new things, to meet new people see new places. And eat lots of food. I especially love food and fruits and have eaten lots since my travels have begun.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

So far I like becoming friends with people that I'm meeting at hostels. Travellers always have something in common that they can talk about and it's great! It feels harder though to meet locals who live in a country as opposed to just travel through it and would to make new friends.

When I was taking a train from Hua Hin in Thailand to Chumpon I was sitting in a booth by myself. As the train started approaching the station two guys came up to me and started talking, (where are you from? How long are you here? What are you doing after?) It very obviously felt like they had some ulterior motive and weren't just being friendly. I also saw that they were drinking some cola+alcohol and previously saw them swinging back and forth excessively when walking. Because their English wasn't so good they asked a Thai woman in the booth next to us if she could translate, and she did for a few minutes. She obviously got the same vibe from them and and eventually leaned in to me and quietly said "I think they are dangerous". Now these two guys weren't exactly threatening. They were short, skinny and looked young. I honestly thought that this was such a cool moment though. I had never had someone try to scam me and felt enough control in the situation that I just had a big, wide grin on my face. Eventually the woman just ignored them and I did too, and the pair meandered off. As I left the train I looked at the woman and smiled and said thank you for warning me, and she said she was happy to help. Basically the point of this story is that it encapsulates two things that I love, having new experiences and meeting people/locals. No one had ever attempted to scam me before (all on all wasn't too bad) and it was also the first real interaction with a local since I started travelling. Not to be too cheese but it showed me that people are just people, good or bad and that it doesn't matter where you are from.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I walked into a Thai restaurant where they didn't speak English. Through gestures and motions the young guy there explained the foods, I ended up eating one of the best meals ever in my life for 35 Baht.
