I’m Keith, originally from Scotland, but haven’t lived there much as an adult.

I went to university in Aberdeen briefly but left to find a real job. I moved to the English midlands and then on to Brighton where I lived for five years. I yearned to live somewhere else for a while and packed up to travel. After visiting friends in Melbourne for a couple of months I decided to stay there for a bit and was there for a year. Now I’ve packed up again and am roaming again. I’ll probably go home to Melbourne eventually, but for now I want to break out of my life there and explore the world.

Climbing and mountaineering are my passions in life, I love to travel and explore outside cities. It's a great way to meet people and try new things. I’m up for trying anything once, the more thrilling the better.

I work for a software company and work remotely, all I need is an internet connection and somewhere to sit, if it's somewhere sunny but shaded even better.

I’m setting out on some open ended travel and want to make new friends to hang out with as I bumble around. I’d love to learn about more cultures, try new foods and maybe find some climbing partners for future expeditions.

The Dark Knight, Inception, Interstellar – basically anything by Christopher Nolan. Up, Tron Legacy, The Social Network, 500 days of Summer, Primer.

I mostly read sci-fi; Ian M. Banks is easily my favourite author. The Algebraist and Excession would be my top picks. I’ve recently started reading Neil Stephenson and Alastair Reynolds. I finally picked up a kindle to go on this trip and its possibly one of the best things I’ve ever bought myself.

Climbing Snake Dike up the southwest face of Half Dome in Yosemite.

My climbing partner and I set off from Camp Curry at five in the morning and hiked the falls trail to get to the base at around 9am. There was congestion on the route so instead of following the usual 5.7R route we took the 5.9X shortcut and blasted to the top.

We got to the summit around midday and chilled out there for a while before taking the cables down. One protip is to go down on the outside of the cables avoiding all the tourist traffic.

We hiked back down on the John Muir trail, a favourite of mine, and got back to camp around 6pm, 13 hours all round.
