About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Get away from my desk and into the world!

ABOUT ME
Hi! I'm Keith. I am currently a PhD student at Florida State University studying Sociology and a research asst on a project about community colleges in Florida. I'm a laid back guy who loves to look for a good time. I love to tell a good story, and I can make even the most stoic laugh :D I used to live in Myrtle beach: serving tables, taking undergrad classes in psychology, beach, meeting tourists, making friends, having a grand ole time.

Now things are a little more fast paced, and I think couchsurfing might be the closest I'll come to meeting the type of people that I spent my time with back in my wonder years. I know how to to go with the flow and throw good vibes to all whom I meet.

PHILOSOPHY
Long hair knows when to care.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCH SURFING
I'm new to this! I've always kept an open door in my home for friends--and friends of friends-- but I'm new to the online community of couchsurfers.

I'm hoping to meet like-minded folk, unlike-minded folk, new faces, in unfamiliar places. I want to travel, but I want to do it feeling like a local.

MY COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I made this profile a few years ago, but I pretty much let my account collect dust on the internet, until recently (summer of 2015), when I decided it might be time to actually engage myself in the community.

I was able to offer my couch a couple months ago to a couchsurfer biking across the country with his 2 dogs, but he ended up not making down to Tallahassee due to complications in his travels.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Over the course of a semester I convinced a class of 65 predominantly white middle-class college students that race, social class, and gender affect individuals' outcomes in society. It was my first time teaching (last Fall), and I'd say about 90% of them had an "Aha!" moment. I'm a white male and I didn't realize the extent of my own privilege until studying sociology as an undergrad, so this experience was pretty much coming full circle.

Another time I went long-lining for sharks, to tag them for research. That was cool too.
