About Me

CURRENT MISSION

first, do no harm. second, try to do some good : )

ABOUT ME

"All about you?!?" Man that's a lot of pressure...I am just me : ) I've worked as an acupuncturist in the U.S. and Nepal, and now I'm meandering my way to medical school. Long(ish) story: if you want to know, ask me about it sometime. I'm pretty easy-going. I am lucky to live on a beautiful small organic farm in the country in Iowa these days, diggin' the country life. I love people and adventures...but I also like to pass a day going for a run and reading a book. I consider it a privilege to be alive. Keep it simple kids. ; )

PHILOSOPHY

Depends on what we're philosophizing about.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've couchsurfed in the U.S., Asia, Europe and Africa and hosted some while I lived in New York. I'm not living anywhere I can host right now, but hopefully will be again someday. I'm into embracing people in whatever way possible: the people we share life with are what make it worth the ride.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Isn't this kind of the same question as the one above?

Interests

This is hard to fill out. Music for sure, medicine, writing, truths and experiences. Beautiful things. Interesting things. New things. I'm interested in most anything that is not malicious or jaded, for at least a little while. To really hold my attention, something has to be particularly beautiful to me, but as far as what it is that meets that criterion, it's tough for me to quantify. Ehh...does that clear things up?!? I try : )

Music, Movies, and Books

mmm...there are many. The thought of naming them all is too much pressure!!! Here are some:

movies: lost in translation, somewhere. pretty much anything of sophia coppola's. vanilla sky. what dreams may come. also christopher guest: best in show, this is spinal tap, and definitely wes anderson: royal tennenbaums (oh margot tennenbaum, you are my favorite character ever...)

music: sts9. koreless. thievery corporation. cafe del mar. van morrison. thom yorke. dave matthews. eddie vedder. oh and always some good mazzy or cat. (you know what i mean...; ) )

books: shantaram. most anything of salman rushdie's, except fury. i love 'the ground beneath her feet.' most any magical realism, gabriel garcia marquez, borges. graham greene has a neat style, but i'm generally so depressed by the end of any of his stuff that i swear to myself i'll never read any again. antonio porchia. current favorites include 'les aventures d'une grenouille nepalese.'

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

this is tough too- these questions are stressing me out!

hmmm.

maybe running from new york city to washington d.c. (295 miles) over 7 days and raising $10,000 from the pockets of widespread family and friends and friends of friends for childrens schools in the middle east?

maybe running around the mountains in nepal, free, free, free?

treating nuns at magical Nagi Gompa or monks at Namobuddha?

maybe scuba diving with sea lions in mexico?

maybe moving to france, without knowing a soul or speaking fluently, and managing to survive (even love it?!) for ten months. even got my carte de sejour.

maybe any time i make it through a bureaucratic shuffle simply, with all the paperwork i need the first time?!?

I really don't know. I think the most amazing thing I see is just the endless unfolding of every day life as it is. Je suis nee sous une bonne etoile : )

Teach, Learn, Share

acupuncture, chinese medicine, herbal medicine and nutrition.

running. although not much i can teach you there; it pretty much comes down to putting one foot in front of the other repeatedly! but i am always, always, always up for a quick- or not so quick- amble through a pretty place. running water never grows stale ; )
