About Me

Hello, my name is Kelley. I'm an enthusiastic athlete, outdoors person and home chef. I am working and training as a union carpenter. I live in a sweet small home in north Anchorage with a luxurious yard and comfortable indoor space. I work union hours, so I'm early to bed and early to rise. I'm always doing a project: carpentry, cooking, learning something new.
I've been part of couchsurfing since 2014, hosting and surfing around the US and Canada. I keep a quiet, goal oriented life, and am interested in hosting people who share my values and lifestyle choices.
I've been a long distance hiker and cross-country road-tripper who has been much aided by kind strangers. I'd like to continue to extend the hospitality to others who are working on their dreams and goals. My home is alcohol and drug free. I prefer to host people who are in town for workshops, personal exploration and outdoor adventures.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is a fantastic concept! I love both "sides" of the equation - both hosting travelers at my small home, as well as getting to stay with hosts when traveling. Additionally, I love answering questions from travelers planning their logistics to Seward or Denali, as those are both places that I have lived in Alaska.

For 2021, I am looking for a help-exchange model of couch surfing.

I look for respectful, responsible people to stay with me. I have a full kitchen, bathroom and laundry that I am willing to share with travelers. I keep a super tidy and clean, home.

I love getting to share meals and walks with guests. I live in mountain view, a highly walkable and bus-route neighborhood. The library, a grocery and various restaurants are within easy walking distance.

Interests

I am an avid hiker and especially enjoy long distance hiking. I love film and trail running, music, especially honky-tonk, cooking and urban hikes.

I worked the summers of 2015 and 2016 in Denali.

I worked as part of a research project out of Dillingham, Alaska the spring of 2016, doing interviews with fishermen in Bristol Bay villages.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I got to hike the whole Arizona Trail in the spring of 2017 - 800 miles of challenge and reward as well as natural beauty, sunshine, snow, rocks, elevation gain and loss. I had a delightful time being on the trail for nearly 2 months & was offered kindness by people all along the route.

Summer 2018 I hiked 1200 miles of the Continental Divide Trail, south bound through the state of Montana.

I hiked the Pacific Northwest Trail in 2014: 1200 miles in 3 months, meeting a number of fantastic and kind people who helped me along the way, the impetus for getting on couchsurfing, as a way to pay forward the kindness I received.

Currently, I am apprenticing on commercial construction projects in Anchorage. it's a whole new field for me, and I learn something new every day.

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy sharing meals with our guests and hosts. I like cooking for folks or being cooked for. If you're staying with me, please bring fresh vegetables & fruits and we'll prepare them so that we can share a snack or meal together. It's my joy to share meals together and the conversation that doing so facilitates.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I hope that you will let us help with chores and buying groceries. I am a conscientious traveler and guest. I hope to bring food and drink gifts, so let me know what you like!
