About Me

Hi my name is Kellie! Here's a quick overview: I grew up in Clarence, New York (close to Buffalo) before going to Boston to attend Boston College. Some of my most defining characteristics are that I'm an animal lover, I'm passionate about social justice issues, particularly concerning climate change, and I'm equal parts artist, philosopher, and scientist. I grew up around animals; at different times my family has had 4 dogs, a multitude of gerbils (like hamsters), 2 cats, and a horse. I have an activist's spirit though I am not officially campaigning for anything. I've been studying the environment in college for the past 4 years and find it fascinating and enlightening. Neil Degrasse Tyson is the coolest! I love getting outside, especially in warm weather. I've also always loved singing and playing piano, photography and photoshop, and making movies as a kid.

I should also add that I'm really only interested in meeting up with women that are around my age (21-25), for the sake of avoiding potentially dangerous situations. If you message me just to hangout and you don't fit that criteria, I'm sorry but I will not respond.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Not only have I heard great things about this method of room and board, but I'm really excited to do something totally new! I've always traveled with family to hotels where the most local you get is stopping by a restaurant that someone recommended before going back to your hotel room. I want to travel in a way that I can be proud of! To me this means going somewhere and actually making connections or sharing ideas with the world one fellow traveler at a time. So I guess my expectations for couch surfing are that I get to spend some time with my host, or at least get some advice on places to meet other people and things to do while I'm there. In exchange I can bring my camera and provide professional looking portraits and family pictures or help cook a nice meal.

Interests

I love getting outside and exploring! These days that means nature walks, hiking, beach-going (when I get a chance/usually near my family's beach house in New Jersey), and running. I love singing and jamming with whoever has a guitar. I enjoy being in shape and getting active. I like cooking so long as I have a clean space. My guilty online pleasure is Youtube. I will wander youtube before watching a tv show any day. My favorite comedian is probably John Mullaney, but then who doesn't love Louis CK too. I also try to read as much as I can. I'm currently working on Game of Thrones.

Music, Movies, and Books

My type of music is between alternative rock and acoustic folksy tracks. I love simple guitar and followable lyrics, either in electric or acoustic form. I'm also attracted to any song that brings me back to the beach or a campfire, or is easy to dance to. Something like the Arctic Monkeys, Ben Howard, Kings of Convenience, or Arcade Fire. I'm also a sucker for oldies like Louis Armstrong and Dean Martin. My favorite movies are the ones with beautiful awe-inspiring imagery and cinematography, as well as heroic sci-fi themes. I loved into the wild, the prince of egypt, and the place beyond the pines, and I'm a major lord of the rings fan!! If anyone ever wants to pull a lord of the rings extended edition all nighter I'm always game.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did a program called SEA Semester, during which I sailed, for a month, from Hawaii to San Fransisco on a tall ship with no stops in between. It was really really hard, in the best way. I never realized before the trip how little sleep sailors get, I also had no control over what I was eating because we had a chef who decided, and because it was an educational trip I had lots of homework. And a lot of kids threw up, a lot. But I have to say I have never felt more capable in life than I did after finishing that trip.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I love the environment, particularly rocks. You can ask me any question about the environment and I will try my best to answer, or have a great time figuring it out with you on Google. I also think of myself as a pretty good photographer and love giving people tips and tricks for taking good photos.

Learn: As long as I've gotten enough sleep, I am game for anything! I'm not too bad with new languages as long as I write things down and I love adventure. I think my favorite way of learning is discussion. My understanding of the world is improved best when discussing the world, and the more diverse the perspective the better.

Share: I will share my photo taking, cleaning, and cooking skills with you. I also love sharing stories.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Like I said before, I will cook you a meal, keep your place tidy and clean, and I can offer nice portrait pictures. I promise to respect you and your space along with your rules.
