About Me
Hi! I'm a 25-year-old (somewhat) recent college grad taking time off between jobs for travel, family, and personal growth. After two years of full-time work as a paralegal, I decided I couldn't continue life that way without taking time for me, so 2018 is my sabbatical year!
When I'm not traveling, I like spending time with my cat, Scoopus, being outdoors, listening to music and podcasts, and trying out every type of grocery store macaroni and cheese.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've couchsurfed in the past with friends, and have had amazing experiences of community and kindness from complete strangers. Staying with others in their homes is a great way to truly live like a local while traveling and see firsthand the kindness in humanity. <3
Music, Movies, and Books
My favorite music is a combo between the classics and current indie. My favorite album of all time is Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, and I also love Steely Dan. If I want something more current, my faves are The War on Drugs or Washed Out.
Right now I'm reading an essay collection by Rebecca Solnit called A Field Guide to Getting Lost. It has been an excellent travel companion, as the essays talk about movement, personal growth and change, the uses of the unknown, and what it can mean to be "lost," aka how that is often not a bad thing. I also have a current obsession with modern architecture and have been reading non-fiction about architects such as Charles Eames and Alvar Aalto.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The most amazing recent thing I've done is quit a well-paying middle class job to try my hand at travel and uncertainty. I'll be going abroad for the first time in my life, and after I return home will be departing on a cross country drive from my home in Kentucky all the way to Los Angeles and back. Facing the uncertainty and lack of security of not working has been bizarre and completely foreign to me, but the optimism I feel has been totally worth the risk.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Hopefully cat stories, travel stories, insights about life in the US and Kentucky, and kindness.
