About Me

Hi there!

I first couch surfed with a friend on our trip to Colombia in 2016 and really enjoyed the cultural exchange.

After that trip to Colombia I caught the travel bug! I try to plan a couple trips per year where I can explore somewhere new, meet people from different cultures, and make friends around the world. I'm open to hosting guests and attending MeetUps where I can meet local CouchSurfers.

I look forward to meeting new people from all over the world.

PHILOSOPHY:
"Life is all about taking chances. You might be safer not taking any. But playing it totally safe means you're only existing, not living. I want to live." ~Ellen Hopkins

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to explore new places, learn about new cultures, and meet new people.
Many people travel after college but I feel like I missed that since I went right into a cubicle job. I feel drawn to explore the world around me near and far. I feel a need to meet new people, learn about different cultures and live life for me, rather than for money or school. I like having deep conversations, learning about people, their aspirations, their family and their dreams.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have diverse tastes of music, movies and books.
Music:
I grew up in the country on a family farm so country music is ingrained in me, but now days I enjoy some classical, pop music and chillstep music. Recently, I've gained interest in Soca music!

Movies:
As a women in the technology field, I enjoy anything about women empowerment or historical fiction. So, Hidden Figures, The Imitation Game, Zootopia, Avatar, Cloud Atlas, The Martian, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, Pitch Perfect 1 and 2

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

February of 2024 I solo bike-packed 1026 miles in Florida (north to south) on a route called the Florida Divide. I camped most nights and couchsurfed my last night in Key West!

In 2021 I moved into an empty camper van with my boyfriend. We drove around the West Coast of USA while converting it in Home Depot parking lots! We lived in the van full time in Alaska for 2 years!

In 2018 I traveled to Namibia, Africa to volunteer at a 2 week technology camp for high school girls. Over 100 high school girls were invited from Namibia, Kenya, eSwatini (Swaziland), Ethiopia, and USA. We taught workshops in Artificial Intelligence, Autonomous Driving, Design Thinking, and Renewable Energy. Back in Oregon, I worked with students teaching them about tech. I primarily focused on girls and students of color and show them the positive impact they can make in the world with technology.

I met a woman for coffee once then two weeks later we traveled to Colombia together where neither of us spoke Spanish. We survived camping in lightning storms, canceled flights, and we climbed all 740 steps to the top of Guatape!

My very first day of college I joined the women's rugby team. Before that I had never heard of the sport or watched it. I had a great time and made some friends that are like family to me.

Growing up I used to show pigs in local and state fairs. I was the top pig showman one year and got to compete in a competition against the top showmen from all the other animal departments and show each others animals including: beef cows, dairy cows, pigs, goats, and sheep.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am eager to learn local customs, why things are done the way they are and a little bit of history from your home. I want to learn about you, your family, where you grew up, and your dreams. I enjoy having deep conversations and laughing together. I'm happy to share stories, photos, memories and my home. I enjoy teaching about technology, rugby, animals, or anything that you may be curious about. I like to help demystify things for others and I like to learn new things too. I'm always down for a game of frisbee!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Dinner, easy conversation, a good friend, a good laugh. I want to get to know you.
I'd LOVE to play frisbee with anyone willing (even if it's just an energetic puppy) :)
