Overview
About Me
I’m Kelly, a twenty-year-old student, studying languages (English and Spanish) in Lyon. Originally from the countryside, I moved here a year ago for my studies. It has been a great experience so far.
I’ve always been a language lover and I’m trying my best to get better so as to be able to communicate with as many people as possible (Although the struggle can be fun sometimes !)
French accent is pretty resistant, but I'm not giving up
I'm always up for conversations and debates, whether it be deep or not haha!
Concertaholic, I think there's nowhere else I'd feel better. Just love that atmosphere, the very tall guys always standing in front of me…
Unfortunately I don't play any instruments, but I'd love to learn someday. It's on my bucket list. (Ok well actually I might know a few chords on the Ukulélé but I didn’t want to show off)
Also, I've always been into writing but I'm not particularly good at it. However sometimes I get inspired for some reason! So if you're enjoying it too, it would be really nice if we could exchange about that.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I think Couchsurfing is a wonderful community and I’m really happy to be a part of it.
Unfortunately I haven't travelled a lot in my life but that’s something I’m definitely going to be changing in the near future.
I went Interailling around the UK with a friend for 40 days during the summer of 2017 and it was an amazing trip at all levels. We met travellers, we got to stay with incredible people with so many great experiences to share… It allowed me to see life really differently and from now on I’ll try and make the most of every single thing that happens to me.
Being on Couchsurfing has been really thought-provoking and rewarding. I’ve learnt a lot from so many different people and as someone who is quite shy and reserved, it enabled me to open up way more than I used to.
During the academic 2017-2018 my flatmate and I hosted 56 people.
We're both going to study abroad next year, I'm going to Hull (UK) in September. I'm definitely planning to go travelling next year, but hopefully I'll get to host as well because I genuinely miss it already!
Interests
music, reading, writing,
Music, Movies, and Books
As I said earlier I'm really into music. I'm always keen on discovering new styles of music but I have to say that in general I tend to prefer rock and folk music. I'd also say "pop" but that term has become quite blurred now.
I couldn't name my favorite band or my favorite artist because it really depends on what mood I’m in. As much as I love listening to new things, I've got quite a collection of vinyl records.
To name a few: Ben Howard, Jake Bugg, Ben Harper, Radiohead (saw them live once, amazing), The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Queen, Jeff Buckley, Ed Sheeran, Norah Jones, PostmodernJukebox, Tom Grennan
I could also spend hours just listening to people playing an instrument, especially the Cello, it's so fascinating. (There's this band, the "2Cellos", you should definitely listen to their work, it's so good!)Lindsey Sterling is also such a great artist.
I’m not much of a movie person (don’t know why) but I do appreciate a good movie every once in a while. I have to admit that I’d definitely need some recommendations though.
Teach, Learn, Share
I don't know if there's much I can teach to the extent that I'm still quite young. Though I believe that everyone has something to share with the others and it's always interesting to get to do that. I'd be so glad to learn from you. I think that's the whole point of traveling and meeting people from all around the world!
And well, if you want to learn French, I've been told I'm not too bad at it so...
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'd like to say I can share some french meals with you but I'm afraid it wouldn't be as tasty as it should. As a student I'm very often going for the quickest/cheapest thing when it comes to cooking.
But I'd be more than happy to talk to you about French culture in general, tell you about things we don't necessarily learn in books... anything really!
I’m a big fan of postcards so I might bring some in my backpack for you…
