关于我
I'm new to Couchsurfing but have always loved the idea of traveling. I've put it off for too long, building my business and making excuses about time, money, etc. This is the year I stop making excuses. Thanks to the Couchsurfing community, I can keep expenses manageable, and meet locals who can help me make the most of my time in each place I visit. I am looking forward to seeing more of the world and meeting so many interesting people.
I run a seasonal business in Albuquerque, NM; Kayak Albuquerque & New Mexico Kayak Instruction, Inc. As the name implies, I teach about 1,000 people a year how to kayak, from flat-water up through advanced whitewater. I also founded a non-profit, Kayak New Mexico. Kayak New Mexico builds courage, confidence and character, one stroke at a time, through adaptive paddling programs for people with physical or developmental disabilities or life-threatening medical conditions.
兴趣
I love talking to people who have lived, worked or traveled overseas. I love hearing their stories, learning about new places to visit, their views on current events, etc. If I had to choose one "interest" -- it would be people!
I also love the outdoors, hiking, camping, anything on the water - kayaking, rafting, whitewater kayaking, sailing, Stand-up Paddling, and more.
I love to dance and all kinds of music. I appreciate art, theater, live music and good food.
My travels have been mostly to Mexico, specifically to the state of San Louis Potosi and Sonora. I'd very much like to visit New Zealand, Australia, Costa Rica, anywhere in Central America, Brazil, Chile or Argentina.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情
I started a non profit providing adaptive kayaking programs to ~4,000 kids with Autism, Down Syndrome, muscular dystrophy, kids with cancer, kids who use wheelchairs, and more. It's more than kayaking -- it's problem solving, motor planning, sequencing, quality of motion, quality of life and building a unique, adventurous identity that's not associated with their disability. Our first major corporate sponsor is a hotel in Albuquerque with an indoor waterpark and lazy river. Many of these kids may never be able to paddle in a real river, without significant support, but this 'adaptive' venue is an ideal alternative. Our program meets once a month, where we'll work with 200-350 kids per night. It's a pretty amazing program. :)
