About Me

Hi! My name is Kelsey and I'm currently on a 6-week journey across the US. I've always wanted to travel the world, so after I graduated from college last year I went home, got a job, saved up some money, quit my job, and hit the road. I'm a very laid back, friendly, and sarcastic person and I would love to meet new friends that can show me what the rest of the world has to offer! I studied History and Architectural History in school and hope to eventually find a job in the museum or preservation field that would let me focus on both of those passions, but for now it's my main goal to see, experience, and understand as much of the world as I can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined Couchsurfing because several friends of mine have told me that it's the best way to really get to know the people and cultures that you're visiting. I'm at a point in my life where I want to get to know myself better and find people and places that I really connect with, and I'm really hoping couchsurfing will help me do that! Also I'm way too cheap to pay for a hotel every night, so there's that...

Interests

I'm a HUGE fan of concerts and music festivals and try to go to shows whenever I can. I also love to do crafty things and DIY projects, because it's creative and fun and feels so rewarding to have something tangible to show for your efforts when you finish. I'm a big pop culture buff too and like to read or watch as many classic books, movies, and cult-following shows as I can (shout out to any "X-Files" fans out there because I'm totally obsessed with that right now!)

Music, Movies, and Books

I've got favorite bands in every genre and decade from Motown to Metal, but most of my top picks are stuck hardcore in the late '90s/early '00s rock range. Foo Fighters are my all time #1, plus Arctic Monkeys, Cage the Elephant, the Ramones, and some admittedly way less badass pop-rock like Matchbox 20 and Neon Trees. My movie picks tend to be polar opposites: either really complex and full of symbolism like old Film Noir or the BBC Sherlock series, or just totally and hilariously stupid ones like Zoolander and Dodgeball. As for books, of course I have to give the obligatory Harry Potter nod, as well as The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Pride and Prejudice, and The Picture of Dorian Gray.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This one is totally cliche but I went skydiving for the first time last month and it was absolutely insane. I'm terrified of heights and somehow plummeting from 10,000 feet up was so amazing and surreal that I would love to do it again. Although after I landed, I took off my harness, walked straight to my car, and immediately threw up, so maybe once is good.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have been dying to start taking dance classes and to learn to play the drums, so if anybody knows those and wants to show off their skills to me then I'd love to see it! In return I can tell you the best offbeat stuff to find on netflix, help you out with any home projects, and show you how to make your belly into the shape of an acorn or a bagel.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a pretty good cook and would love to make you dinner in exchange for opening your home to me!
