About Me

My name is Kelsey and I am currently living in a small town called Whakatane in New Zealand. I work for a company which takes tours to New Zealand's only live marine volcano. This has been an incredible experience as I get to spend time on the ocean while meeting people from all around the world.

I'm definitely more of a dog person than a cat person.

I love the ocean, and I studied marine science for 2 years before going on to do my Bachelor of Science. I still read a lot about the marine-realm, despite finishing my studies, and I love learning more.

I've always wanted to see more of the world. The idea that there is so much else going on outside of little ole New Zealand on such a grander scale is so enticing, and I can wait to start immersing myself in the big bad world, and meet new people, try new things, and experience things I just can't do here at home.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am heading to Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales in September for 6 weeks with a friend of mine and we are both on a budget since saving money became a bit hard this year for both of us. Life, y'know?

Plus, staying with people who have similar interests in travel also means we can get more of a locals insight, rather than being held-up in a motel room with just each other to talk to.

Interests

I love being on, near, or in the ocean and learning new things about it, so, a lot of my traveling will probably be fairly coastal - not to say that I won't travel inland! I love all kinds of wildlife, and I am a huge food fan, and love spending time doing something I'll remember.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite books would have to include "Wild Pork and Watercress" and "The Alchemist". I have a lot of marine-related books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing dive that will always stick with me is one where I kinda thought I was going to die. We were all told that we were going to drop off the boat at the same time and drop down to a bommie about 10m down, and that there would be a bit of a current. As soon as we hit the water there was a HUGE current, and when we made it to the bommie, it was no better. We had to crawl against the current down the side of the bommie to where the current was minimal, and when we did, we were greeted by a wall of reef sharks. It was absolutely mind-blowing, and was the best dive I think that I have ever done.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can make pad thai noodles without a recipe book, and I know of a cake recipe where you throw all of the ingredients into a processor. I can share fun facts about the ocean, and I'm always keen to explore new places. I am friendly, and some people even think I'm funny.
