About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Find the Jackalope and own a jellyfish.

ABOUT ME

My name is Kelsie and I'm an Art Director at an advertising agency in New York City. I recently graduated from the University of Michigan. I've lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States for the past four years. My hometown is Lansing, Michigan. I've studied abroad in Prague, Czech Republic for 5 months and I had an amazing time traveling in Europe thereafter. Couch surfing made my travels possible! Overall I think I'm pretty easy going. I'm always down for bar hopping, partying, learning new things and meeting new people.

PHILOSOPHY

As a designer, I strive to discover and understand the multitude of ways in which design influences the way society interprets the information that surrounds us. I feel is it my responsibility as a creative thinker and artist to use my abilities in a way that will enlighten society towards new perspectives and new ideas.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Couch surfing has given me a newly found faith in humanity. I think couch surfing is a great opportunity to travel inexpensively and explore cities with locals. I definitely believe that the best way to experience a city is by connecting with those who've lived there and are looking to share their city with visitors.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couch surfed a few times during my semester abroad in Europe. Without generous people willing to share their spaces, traveling would be much more limited. Although I'm rather new to the couch surfing community, I definitely want to become more involved.

Interests

I love graphic design, typography, photography, and all kinds of art related things. I'm very interested in the ways in which art influences the lives of all different people, both consciously and subconsciously. I'm deeply passionate about music, and my musical taste spans across a multitude of genres. I've played violin for most of my life and been in a several ensembles from quartets and symphonic orchestras to bluegrass bands. I'm really into street art and graffiti. On a lighter note, I love dark beer, second hand stores, vintage photos, indian food, apple products, whiskey, plaid, aviator sunglasses, postcards, baggy sweaters and cheese. I collect vintage cameras, coasters, and matchbooks. Lets hang out.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite music spans all the way from hip hop to 60's rock bands. I love bits and pieces from all genres, especially hiphop, jazz, folk, bluegrass, and classical. I'm constantly on the search for new songs and artists that give me chills. Mix and Remix.

Favorite authors: David Sedaris, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut.

When it comes to movies... Natural Born Killers, Eternal Sunshine, Rushmore, American History X, Crash, Wet Hot American Summer, and The Royal Tenenbaums are just a few of my favorites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen is the sun rising from the top of Mount Haleakala in Maui, Hawaii. After watching the sun peak over the clouds, I rode down the mountain on a bike through several different ecosystems, all with beautiful wildlife and smells. I'll never forget riding through eucalyptus forrests, pineapple farms, and lavender patches. Overall, I think the Hawaiian Islands are some of the most beautiful little bits of land on earth.

Back on the continent, I love spending time in the north part of my home state. Northern Michigan is beautiful in the summer and fall with its freshwater lakes, beaches, lush forests, warm sand dunes and brilliant colored fall leaves. The seven months of cold is definitely worth the beautiful summers.
