About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Leave the world a happier, more humane, more delicious place.

ABOUT ME

I am an academic, writer and traveler currently living in Fort Collins, Colorado. I love the local food scene in Colorado and have been involved in working and volunteering on farms, cooking food and promoting community involvement in local food.

I also write about animal studies and have edited a collection of essays titled: "Trash Animals," which looks at ways people might re-evaluate their relationship with pest species. My current research explores cattle in human culture and I have visited Spain, Argentina, India, and England for research on this topic.

I love paying forward the amazing hospitality I have been shown traveling. As Mark Twain is quoted as saying, "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness."

PHILOSOPHY

One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.
– Henry Miller

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I volunteered for a doctor working in the Indian community in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 2011 and couch surfed with a family who helped me find an apartment for the summer. I love showing people around Fort Collins, which is an amazing community in the northern Colorado Front Range, but haven't hosted many couch surfers.

Music, Movies, and Books

These are some of my favorite books, which also happen to be about travel: "The Geography of Bliss" by Eric Wiener, "West with the Night" by Baryl Markham, "Consider the Lobster" by David Foster-Wallace, "The Snow Leopard" by Peter Matthiessen,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I volunteered at a free-medical clinic called Jag Therapy, in Mysore, India, which provides holistic medical care for anyone that walks through the door in 2011. It was amazing to learn about natural medicine, nutrition and health care in India and interact from people of every cast system and from all over the world.

I can't recommend seeing the southern right whales in the Gulf of Cortez during the months of September, October and November. There is a beach outside of Puerto Madryn, Argentina where the whales come to watch you!

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy cooking and am happy to share food and recipes.
