À propos de moi

I am Ken 🙋

I was born and raised in a town called Maastricht, a beautiful, small historic place which gets its name and charm from the river Maas (Meuse). Currently working on my masters thesis in Viena.
Before I used to follow a teaching degree with a dream, which crashed and burned, to become a highschool history teacher.

For a short while I was a fitness coach at a local gym and I have always been a martial arts practitioner. Recently I've become keen on bike camping and mountain biking.

Through school I got the opportunity to live abroad in South Korea 🇰🇷 where I studied at 연세대학교 Yonsei University and traveled the whole country.
Now I am studying in Wien/Vienna 🇱🇻 to get a Masters degree (anyone willing to help with my Deutsch is welcome).

My favorite country to visit so far has been Türkiye 🇹🇷 with the most incredible historic sights, natural beauty and amazing people some I am lucky enough to call friends and even family.

My motto for traveling is:
"Climb every hill you see"
Not only literally for the view and rewards in excercise but also figuratively to push yourself to do new and unconfortable things.

Whoever comes to the Netherlands 🇳🇱and wants a nice midway point when traveling to Brussels, luxembourg or Cologne should consider stopping by Maastricht. I can show you around the city which would take 3 to 4 hours for a short visit or if you want to go in depth 2 or 3 days.

Lets get those 6 degrees of seperation down to 5 😉

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

To meet new people and learn. Also to find myself in places I would never in my life come to if it wasn't for the beautiful randomness of meeting others.

Centres d'intérêt

I love a wide variety of things. From outdoor activities to language, politcs and history to music.
As long as I am learning I am content

  • live music
  • guitar
  • cycling
  • hiking
  • camping
  • history
  • deep conversations

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Rock and Metal. Particularly RHCP and Metallica. Childish Gambino and Joji for hiphop.

I enjoy Historical Fiction novels as they bring to light new histories without dull information; Pachinko, half of a rising sun, the forty rules of love to name a few.
I also used to be into fantasy novels a lot as a kid.

Not a movie guy, but war movies and bad horror are always welcome.
Lord of the Rings is always good

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Canoeing across the Danube together with my stupid friends...
Almost going to Turkish jail for having a bathroom ceiling fall on me in a crappy hotel...
Having a newyears party in the basement of Korean university in a city I've never been in with people I've never seen...

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

Making connections by sharing, debating and making new ideas.
I haven't got a lot to teach but I do have a good ear and an inquisitive mind and am not afraid to make mistakes.

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

A good night sleep as I don't snore and some tunes on a guitar
