About Me

So far the balance of my history would seem to determine that I am both American and Australian. That said, I continue to read and study political science and political history while having some appreciation for fantasy and science fiction as well. I grew up as a Trekkie and still am, but my overall vision toward science fiction and fantasy allows for many parameters yet unknown, unpublished, and as yet unimagined. As is said often enough, the science fiction of today often becomes the reality of tomorrow.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have space for a person or couple to hibernate in somewhat private comfort which may also help to relieve some degree of the huge expense of their travel with the added bonus that people may wish to include and enjoy the rich nature, climate, and adventure of, at least, a small part of Western Australia. It is different here than anywhere else in Australia.

Interests

I am interested in just about anything historic, artistic, and cultural. I enjoy Bollywood movies and the implication of history, culture, tradition, and family that runs through the best of them. I have traveled widely and virtually live in museums when visiting other countrie. I also spend many more hours just walking around in any city to get a feel for the culture, the people, the architecture and its pace.

Music, Movies, and Books

Star Trek books, series and movies, The Book Thief, The Incarnations of Immortality, Noam Chomsky publications - every single one of them, Amy Goodman publications, Edwardo Galiano publications, John Pilger books and documentaries, classical music and orchestral music in general.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visited Cambodia at the tail end of the remaining and visual existence of Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge where a boom gate across a road patrolled by guards with machine guns pointed directly at you could have had a rather negative outcome. The function of the guards appeared to be to asses your reason for being there and to give, or not give, permission for you to pass. No importance, what-so-ever, in my meager understanding, could have been attached to that road or the two villages that lay at one end or the other of it. The driver did not want to take me on that road from the start, but stupid me... However, the wisdom of the driver could not have been more clear when approaching the gate, "He ask money, you pay money." We were allowed to continue, no charge.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would rather learn than teach, which is what any teacher should learn.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer my boring personality, a place to rest, a base for a guest's adventures in WA to begin and return to, and a genuine welcome to Western Australia from someone who has now lived here for many years.
