Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
On a hunt for the moments, people, conversations and places that are sacred, if we pay enough attention.
ABOUT ME
In March of 2013, I used couchsurfing for the first time to travel through five cities on the east coast. I took lots of photographs, met amazing people and was renewed.
I currently live in Morgantown, WV.
Myers-Briggs INTP, and it fits pretty well:

PHILOSOPHY
Back when I had an OKC profile, it opened with this:
"A paradox of cynicism and hope, either of which can come gushing out at any given moment. Hopelessly empathic. A regular desire for intellectual stimulation, especially relating to philosophy, science, social justice and politics. I fear very little other than clowns and boredom. Autonomy is my greatest love. Careless for wealth. Passionate for truth." That's the best I had then, and it's pretty much the best I got now.
I believe in falsifiability and the scientific method. I believe that the internal experiences of human beings are infinitely more complex than the scientific method can encapsulate. I believe that the sacred is here, in the connections we find with each other, rather than in some afterlife. I believe in action. I believe that our current socioeconomic structures are unsustainable and soul-crushing, and the creation of sustainable alternatives - especially those that give the finger to established order - are to be paid attention to and (sometimes) participated in.
I love taking photos and writing.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm interested in meeting new people when I go out of town rather than just retiring to a hotel room alone. I want to hear about local issues, pride, history and culture.

Music, Movies, and Books
It is inconceivable that I could possibly list music that is important to me. There is SO MUCH, and I'm finding SO MUCH all the time. So much, in fact, that I rarely find time to listen through my old favorites again.
Film is more straightforward. Count me out of romantic comedies unless John Cusack is involved. Love documentaries. I love any fiction with good writing. The visuals and performances are secondary to the writing.
Books with philosophical edges have been most influential. I still read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance every now and then. Tao Te Ching and The Prophet would be other examples. But I'm a big fan of creative nonfiction in general.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have placed my hands on the ground and closed my eyes as an earthquake shook the world around me. I have stood on the bow of a ship as it sailed into an ocean rainstorm. I have climbed a mountain and looked out over the valley below. I have swam with a shark. Lots of cool things. My life has been good to me.
