One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was 11 years old listening to my great grandmother tell stories about her childhood. The firetrucks led by horse, the dinner meals he mom spent twelve hours preparing, her prayers and questions as a child, and her thoughts about current situations in the family, what Heaven might be like, and how she does not fear death's nearing call. It was our last conversation. I read at her funeral; the rain and grey skies seemed to appropriately display the condition of my and my family's heart. After mispronouncing "Philippians," instead saying "Philippines," I of course responded how any 11 year old would: I giggled. At that moment, the stain glass windows in the beautiful catholic cathedral filled the church with light and color! It wasn't until then that I remembered Cookie Grandma asked me to rejoice on the day of her death for she would be with the Lord.
