About Me

My name is Kenichi. If you wanna pronounce my name naturally, you have to pay a little attention to the difference of our phonetics. My name is not like "ke-ni-chi". It's more like, "ken-ichi". You have to separate "n" and "i". Then "Ken" is exactly like Barbie Ken, and you just add "ichi", which means "one" in Japanese.

Yes I'm from Japan. So if you are interested in Japan or thinking of a trip to there, I might be a good guest/host. I'm culturally very open-minded and always willing to know about other parts of the world. That's exactly why I'm studying in Germany!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To be blatantly honest, I'm a poor student :/
But as I've just written above, I'm curious about people in other parts of the world, and I also expect to have some nice unexpected encounter and friendships.

One important thing. Though I'm happy to host a tourist, unfortunately I'm not a good candidate as your host. Since I'm currently living in a student dorm with a small room in the outskirts of Berlin, you would not find my accommodation best for your trip.
If you are still ok with my room, then yea why not? My dorm is located in a district called Adlershof, which is close to Schönefeld Airport and this might be only one advantage of my accommodation :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Nirvana. Kurt Cobain is the biggest artist who taught me a different view on art and life. In my opinion, he was the most talented songwriter in the history of rock music. If he had lived longer and left more songs, maybe he could have been as big as John Lennon.

When it comes to movies, we Japanese have the biggest name, Akira Kurosawa. Though "Seven Samurai" is the one most frequently cited among his works, my favorite is "Yojimbo". They are very old black&white movies but you shouldn't judge art by new or old.

My favorite book is probably "Surely you're joking, Mr. Feynman!". It's a small book collecting short stories told by Richard Feynman, an American Nobel Prize-awarded physicist himself. When we physicists talk about genius, we think of him, next to Albert Einstein. Maybe you think you don't bother what physicists say, but you should put your prejudice aside and just read it once. This is not a book on science but on random funny things that happened in his life. It will certainly change your view on scientists and show you how truly independent and free mind feel and behave like.
