ABOUT ME

i work my ass off during the week and lay low on weekends. my job of working on 13-18 guitars a day has made me very interested in instrument building, but i dont like the factory set up. so my current dream is to go to central and south america ( i dont have official plans yet ) and first of all learn spanish and maybe get certified to teach ESL, after that if it is possible i would love to learn folk methods for making traditional ( prefferably stringed ) instruments from a local. if that all goes according to plan and i am still interested in the art of instrument making i would think about attending the Violin Making School of America in slc utah. I am currently in the get out of debt from my last travels phase, and hopefully soon will be in the money saving phase. when im not working i am usually with friends or listening to music, i am a music lover, mostly what is referred to as indie music, but i also like some of the really popular stuff. i try to attend as many concerts as i can and have traveled up to 700 miles to see one. i like the out of doors but i am not determined enough to consider myself the outdoor type.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

after a spur of the moment decision to go to japan from thailand instead of china, i decided the best way to get to china would be to go by ferry. so after a 12 hour bus ride from kochi to shimonoseki, i boarded a ferry that never intended to have westerners on it, there was not an english word anywhere just korean, japanese and chinese ( none of which i know ) the ferry had private cabins for outragous amounts of money or the shared cabin, which i and each of the 35 or so other passengers chose. each passenger got a cubby hole to put luggage, a blanket, and a small rectangular foam block ( which i assumed was a pillow ). since i had just had a long day anyway when i got on i took a nap, to awaken to a notice over the p.a. that i didnt understand so i rolled over and went back to sleep. come to find out that was the dinner announcement. luckily there were vending machines that had warm food, after examining the 'menu' i decided on an obscure picture of some odd green thing, the machine after heating up the meal, spit out two hot dogs about four inches long. after eating that i joined everone else upstairs for drinks and karaoke, being the obvious foreigner my beer cup was never empty and a miscommunication saved me from singing anything. i met one man who could speak a little english and he asked me about myself and my plans once i got to qingdao china. at the time i didnt really have plans, no hosel reservations, no contacts, nothing. he laughed at me. he then told others who were interested about me, another man ( Japanese ) couldnt stand the fact that i had nothing once i arrived and he took me under his wing. 26 hours after boarding the ferry we land in qingdao and got hurried through customs, the japanese man introduced me to his chinese friend that was picking him up, the chinese man was VERY excited to meet me and help me find a hotel to stay at ( although it was a bit pricey ). once in china i quickly realised why the first man laughed at me, the japanese and the chinese guys adopted me and introduced me to friends and family, they toured me around and even took me to the country-side. those two helped me more then most and though this story isnt about seeing anything amazing, it shows the generousness of people towards eachother and that is more important to me then seeing the sights.

i love being able to learn anything i can, if its a clever way not to get pick-pocketed or the name of the currency a country uses.
