My name is Lorne, and I'm at that "awkward phase" where I look an awful lot like an adult, but am still figuring out how to do adult things well. Any tips are welcome ;)

I currently work for a satellite communications company that creates software and hardware for ground station antennas communicating with satellites. Even after being thoroughly educated with engineering principles and physics, I'm convinced that the process by which we get pictures and videos to show up on our computers and phones is magic.

I live with my gorgeous girlfriend, Katie, in an apartment in Saskatoon, SK. She's pretty much the most beautiful, humble, down-to-earth person you'll ever meet. She is a nurse (yes, we are a stereotypical pairing), and as such, has way better social skills (such as empathy and eye contact) than me. However, I still love meeting new people, and am a pleasant guy to be around - I have literally ZERO mortal enemies.

My girlfriend and I are both looking to get a bit of a break from our professions in the coming year, taking time to travel the west coast of Canada and the United States to start, and seeing where it takes us! We're super excited for what the future holds!

My main passion is west coast swing - a modern take on traditional swing that evolves with the music of the time - and I'm addicted. I'm super lucky that my girlfriend is an amazing dancer and I can share my love of the dance with her. We teach off and on, and do a crazy amount of social dancing in the community, as well as travel to competitions in the United States when we have the time and resources to do so. We've even won a few!

Aside from that, I enjoy reading, working out (I freaking LOVE powerlifting), listening to excessive amounts of funk, going to live shows, yoga, and drawing. It's been a long time, but I used to really like star-watching with my telescope - unfortunately since being adopted into city life it has been collecting a fair amount of dust over the past few years, but it was my first introduction into science, and I hope to get back into some day soon.

I like a wide variety of music, and am learning to be more open-minded towards all sorts of music, but if there's one thing I know I'm a sucker for it's a funky bass line - anything that makes me want to dance, really!

Books that have stood out to me the most were The Poisonwood Bible, Kafka on the Shore, The Kite Runner, and The Grapes of Wrath.

Movies? Mmm, I'd say No Country For Old Men, The Fountain, Requiem For A Dream, Pi (yes I believe most of those are all Aranofsky), Lord of the Rings, and Mrs. Doubtfire :)

I'm not a big TV guy, as I find most stuff on it to be garbage, but I enjoy the gritty wit of Anthony Bourdain on No Reservations, and I'm a huge fan of Adventure Time :)

It's not SUPER amaze-balls, but one of the cooler things I did was get to travel to a Norwegian rocket-range as part of my undergrad engineering physics courses, and spend a week there learning about the many aspects of sounding rockets. It was really cool because the range was located north of the arctic circle, and we didn't see any sunlight until the last day we were there. I even got the chance to take a bit of a "polar bear dip" in the ocean on the second last night (twice, in fact), of which I have a certificate to prove.
