About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Preparing for how awesome the future is going to be and helping to create the awesomeness.

ABOUT ME

I have a passion for science, technology, and education. I'm in love with and awed by the power of modern technology (especially the Internet) to bring the world together in ways no one could have ever imagined. I love thinking about current technologies that could have similar effects, especially for the future of education. The future excites me.

PHILOSOPHY

1. Enjoy life.
2. Don't be a dick.

Music, Movies, and Books

Love sci-fi novels. Robert Heinlein and Nancy Kress are definitely my favorite authors there. "Time Enough For Love" (Heinlein) is my sacred text.

Music is a background device for me: great classical works or modern works you can just throw on and forget about are usually a key part of my most productive days.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once watched 11 seasons of Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis in a 10 week period. I felt simultaneously accomplished and lazy.

In 2009, some friends and I started an interdisciplinary university in Silicon Valley. Watching it grow and meeting the amazing people who want to get involved continues to be the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've had the fortune to work in a number of different areas, and I always try to bring a convergent perspective to my current work. I've worked or dabbled in information technology, media production, graphic design, biotechnology, and entrepreneurship. Helping someone understand something new about any of those fields or learning about a new field myself is one of life's great joys.
