About Me

I grew up in one of the safest countries in the world, and got to live a pretty privileged life.
As a natural introvert, I've spent a lot of time in the digital world, probably clocking in over 10,000 hours of computer gaming before I was 20.
I'm currently trotting down a life path of an average person who finds a 9-to-5 job, climbs the corporate ladder, starts a family (hopefully), and enjoys a cushy retirement (hopefully).

I think I've lived a sheltered life. I wish to change that.

Upon entering university, I decided to embrace the great outdoors. I trekked a mountain in my first year, learnt diving in my second. In my third year, I broke my ankle skating, signed up for a marathon a couple of days after my surgery, and then ran it a few months later.

I'm in my fourth and final year now and I plan to travel as much as I can within my short 3 months in Europe (Oct '18 - Dec '18). I wish to learn more, see more, do more, and love more. Maybe you could help me with that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

"When in Rome, do as the Romans do"

I'm really hoping to broaden my own perspectives by observing and embracing the cultures of others, through their lenses. I'm pretty open to new experiences, just give me a couple of suggestions and I'll go for it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Tropical House, Synthwave, Mandopop, Coldplay, some EDM. I lean towards chill, relaxed tunes
Movies: Inception, Sherlock, Marvel Cinematic Universe (even though it's getting saturated), Shawshank Redemption, Pirates of the Caribbean, Rush Hour trilogy Basically, either 1) Action or 2) Detective/mystery. I hate horror and some thrillers though, I prefer to have my heart rate accelerated through natural means
Books: I generally read for self-improvement, in the areas of productivity and finance. Some books I've read include: 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teenagers The Intelligent Investor You Can Be A Stock Market Genius The Most Important Thing: Uncommon Sense for The Thoughtful Investor Don't expect me to be a stock market genius though. Books that I've bought and not yet read: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Thinking, Fast and Slow
TV: I like wacky toons, like Adventure Time and Rick and Morty. Anime also tends to fall into this spectrum. Even though I don't play sports, I like watching football and basketball highlights. Arsenal FC fan!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On my first (and currently only) multi-day trek up Mt. Xueshan in Taiwan, me and another guy decided to go and do some 'natural rock climbing' slightly off the path, with our full equipment, without harnesses. It would have been a deadly 100m+ fall if we slipped. But of course we didn't, which is why I can tell the tale :)

It was a pretty magical moment, because there was this feeling of certainty that I was in full control, and slipping was impossible. I was very conscious of the placement of my feet, my hands, the firmness of my grip on the rocks. I was basically "in the zone". Maybe that's how people fall in love with rock climbing? However, if you were to tell me to do it again, I would think twice before committing. The moment was so spontaneous, so perfect. I think I used up all my YOLO energy doing that, heh.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you some basic Chinese phrases which could come in handy if you ever visit Chinese-speaking countries. And a couple of cuss words too, because why not?

I could probably make some basic Chinese food as well, if the area has the right ingredients. No guarantees on how good it'll taste though, unless I'm using some pre-made paste, because those almost always tastes good.
