Overview
About Me
I study the city, but my heart is in the mountains.
I am a PhD Candidate and filmmaker that lives in Menaggio, Italy, but I spend most of my free time rock climbing, trail running, and otherwise trying to get out into nature...
I've traveled over much of the Western world. I'd love to connect with you...
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am really interested in staying with locals when I travel. I think you get to know the inside story, history, culture, little nuances about places only by living closely with its people.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have traveled with couchsurfing all throughout Europe! In Poland, Austria, and Israel I stayed with locals for many weeks!! This was amazing! I really enjoy long stays with hosts or hosting CS for longer periods because you have an opportunity to learn more about their approach to life, the way they engage in the every day, and so forth. Also, I have couchsurfed across the US, and in Spain, France, Israel, Lebanon, and Jordan. I really enjoyed connecting with people that I stayed with the best. Some of them have become lifelong friends!
Interests
SOCIAL JUSTICE
I am a PhD student at UCLA in Los Angeles in Urban Planning motivated by social justice issues surrounding housing and trying to improve how affordable housing functions in international contexts, especially when we're seeing rising gentrification in many of our major metropolitan areas.

ROCK CLIMBING
I've been rock climbing for 20 years (!) and spent time climbing all over the American West: Yosemite, Joshua Tree, Squamish, Indian Creek, Lovers Leap, etc... I am most motivated to go out traditional climbing, but I also enjoy sport, bouldering, and lately very excited to do more alpine climbing. I also spend time trail running, swimming, biking, surfing, camping, and hiking.
GARDENING
I'm also pretty into my backyard organic vegetable garden. (Also, I designed and built the passive-solar agricultural greenhouse in the photo above for my Alma Mater in Vermont.)
BOOKS
Love spending my free time in bookstores!
I SPEND A LOT OF TIME THINKING ABOUT
...How to put my privilege to good use instead of feeling guilty about it.
...How to live a meaningful life.
...Nurturing relationships with family and friends.
...How to spend more time outdoors in nature and physically and mentally challenging myself.
