About Me

CURRENT MISSION

See the world with our baby.

ABOUT ME

As this is a family profile (for me, my husband and the babe), I will include a bit about all of us.

Personable, curious and adventurous. I am a person who enjoys adventure in far corners of the world. I love learning about people, their culture, idiosyncrasies but mostly their similarities. And it goes without saying that by far my favorite thing about traveling is trying new food. Food!

For Flavio:
As he is Brazilian, he's even more laid back than I am. He is a hard-worker, quiet (at times) but always friendly. he's not a man who boasts too much about his accomplishments but ask him about his world record,--he'll tell you about it-- it has to do with traveling! Flavio is into sports of all kinds-- his favorite is Jiu JItsu; he has a black belt and works here (in Abu Dhabi) as an instructor.

Lorenzo:
At the time this profile is being written (February 6th, 2016), he is 8 months old. He is a cherubic little babe who loves to squeal when he's happy and does everything he can to always have his hands on food. He will try anything! He only has one dislike and that is broccoli. He loves playing with people's hands and jewelry. He is a great sleeper so you won't have to worry about any middle of the night madness from him.

PHILOSOPHY

I teach kindergarten so a lot of my personal philosophy comes out through the sound bytes I use with the little ones on a daily basis. In no particular order: "Persevere!" "Problem-solve!" "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit." "Every problem has a solution!" "BELIEVE!!" "Be nice!." "Everyone is different and we all have something to learn from each other."

You'll have to ask Flavio about his own personal philosophy-- but it probably involves hard work and traveling.

Lorenzo loves food. His personal philosophy would probably include enjoying life through food. He may be a mini-clone of my husband but his love of food is definitely from me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently interested in hosting couchsurfers while living in Abu Dhabi. I am committed to being more active in local meetings and couch surfing events here.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My husband and I have hosted in Florida and in the UAE. Loved all of our surfers!

Interests

I love teaching, traveling, cooking, eating, reading and relaxing. Hole-in-the-wall restaurants are our (my husband and my) favorites. I enjoy physical activity that doesn't require too too much coordination. Running, basically. Or fast walking. I'm currently into trying jiu-jitsu.

Music, Movies, and Books

In no particular order: "Shantaram", that one book by Italo Calvino, "On the Road."
I've been into memoirs by comedy writers lately.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I met my husband while teaching abroad.

Teach, Learn, Share

My husband teaches Jiu Jitsu, you're welcome to attend his class to participate or to learn by watching. I can teach you how to make a few mexican staples (enchiladas, guacamole and refried beans). Lorenzo can teach you how to roll over from any position imaginable. It sounds silly but I improve my Jiu Jitsu game by studying how he moves.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Food, my friends, car rides, and an invitation to one of my Toastmaster's meetings or an invitation to any other activities I attend. :)

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Bahrain, Bolivia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Oman, Spain, Tanzania, Thailand, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Arab Emirates, United States
