About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Evolving in my lifetime

ABOUT ME

I spend my days teaching people to use software to make their lives happier and more efficient. Nights and weekends I have the privilege of adorning New Yorkers with henna, teaching budding artists how to do henna and promoting my book on Moroccan henna.

I spend extended periods of time traveling to all the nooks and crannies of the world, speaking French, learning other languages, exploring markets, researching the local music scene, learning about local cuisine, reading the history of future destinations and checking airfare on Google Flights. My next trips Colombia and Morocco. Lately I've been to Turkey, Bulgaria, Colombia, Argentina and Panama, and before that Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

I've travelled all over the world, but also lived for extended periods in Holland, France, Cambodia and the Western Sahara. I love meeting the people of the place I am visiting, enhancing my experience of the place, not just passing through, and feel like Couchsurfing is perfect for that desire. As a guest I'm self-sufficient; I seek to leave a place as I found it. I'd love to meet my hosts but I won't impose that on you! I tend to prefer hanging out in local cafes or markets, seeing how real people live. I like the sight-seeing but I would hate that to be the sum total of my trips.

I love languages and always try to pick up words and phrases from the places I've lived and travelled. For that reason I have some skills in Arabic, Khmer and Spanish. I used to speak Dutch fluently when I lived there as a kid but unfortunately I forgot it all when I returned to the US.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I find a lot amazing, not just one thing. I lived in Cambodia in a village and in the Western Sahara...in those times in my life seeing Angkor Wat and feeling the vastnes of the planet in the Sahara were pretty damned amazing!

Teach, Learn, Share

come to NYC and I'll show you how to survive the subway, find cheap and awesome food, and avoid the crush of tourists. It's a great place to visit but also a great place to live!
