About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My main objective is to reach enlightenment through the most painless methods possible.

ABOUT ME

SF

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy, eh?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Mostly I hope to make the world seem a little smaller, more accessible, and friendlier, either by making connections with people while I'm traveling, or offering that to other people. I am also excited about the idea that, when traveling, you can actually get a small peek into what it's like to live in that place.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had one person couch surf with me, but since then I haven't, mainly because I do live in an eight person house and any couch surfers have to be ok'd by all the other people. If you want to stay with me, it's best to contact me at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance

Interests

Mainly, I like to do the things mentioned above. As for more specific interests, well, I have developed an interest in Ethiopia and Turkmenistan. I get sucked into silly Bollywood movies and Satyajit Ray movies. I'm interested in stories about people who lead double lives. I'm interested in desserts. I like conversations with people in unexpected places, crepes, lettuce, gender equality, noses, and snow days. I like to do thought experiments, chat, goof off, and do other things like that. If you want a city tour guide, I'm most likely to show you parks and play areas, or perhaps small, little pockets of charm in a sea of gray. I'm not so good at the museums/space needles/other notables in Seattle.

Music, Movies, and Books

We Are Writing to Inform You that Tomorrow We Will Be Killed Along With Our Families (I can never get the title precisely right, alas), Blueberries For Sal, The Brothers Karamazov, In the Heart of the Sea, Nabokov, Austen.

Movies are harder: I like Satyajit Ray movies generally, and other feel good/not quite Bollywood ones like Monsoon Wedding and Where's the Party Yaar. I also like slow, poignant movies that feel as if they will drag on forever (Bicycle Thief, Army of Shadows), and finally, I like extremely silly movies.

Music: some Jazz, LadyTron, Rachmaninov, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Nina Simone, Miss Kittin, Dolly Parton, and a few trashy country songs that remind me of Texas.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

this is too hard to describe/classify.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can knit and purl, know a few simple tricks for making a simple painting turn out okay, can help you with your physics homework (sometimes), and can also teach you how to make a quick-rise, no-knead bread.

Countries I’ve Visited

Fiji, French Southern Territories, Greece, India, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates

Countries I’ve Lived In

Portugal, United States
