About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Job-hunting, house-hunting and as always finding new friends.

ABOUT ME

After being in education for a long time; I went and travelled for 10 months around Vietnam, New Zealand, Fiji and many other places. But now it's time to find a job.

While studying I worked as a cameraman, which I loved, each day was a mini travel to meet new people at a new place.

My studies started in a B.Sc. in Psychology and Communication Engineering and went through to my Ph.D. in Renewable Electrical Power (specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Programming Mathematical Models). So I have a great interest in both these areas.

I have spent the last 8 years working part time for a communication and multimedia company. I mainly did filming and editing, but I've done the odd bit of 3D work, graphics, authoring. I also help out at the media training and communication courses.

My most recent job involves developing Apps for phones. It means I get to play with just about every smart phone out there.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met up with, traveled with and stayed with people through my travels. and honsetly some of the best people I've met are couchsurfers. I've made some great friends through this site (and found out other new friends are already couchsurfers).

Interests

Ah, lots of things. I tend to try out a lot of stuff. Karate is my main hobby I was one of the instructors for a Universtiy Club (the best in the UK!). I've also done a lot of horse riding (mainly eventing and show-jumping). Oh and Modern Pentathlon (Fencing, Horse Riding, Shooting, Running, Swimming). I occasionally go to the local table tennis club and I went on a fantastic hiking holiday in the alps. I got my advanced scuba diver certificate in Indonesia. I've lead climbed a few routes in Thailand. I've surfed in Bali and Byron (among others).

I've spent most of my life around computers so that's a pretty big interest. I probably spend too long on them.

oh and live comedy, cooking, dancing, live music, festivals....

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a pretty big music fan just grabbing the top few of my last.fm profile: The Go! Team, Los Campesinos!, Mumford and Sons, Islands, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Weakerthans, Lily Allen, Vampire Weekend, Belle & Sebastian, Devendra Banhart, Arcade Fire, Gogol Bordello, Modest Mouse, Rancid, NOFX, Mad Caddies, Madness, Bad Religion, The Bouncing Souls, Pennywise, The Specials, Ben Folds, American Head Charge, The Coral, Dropkick Murphys, Looking Up, The Jam, Horrorpops, Flogging Molly, No Comply, Rx Bandits

As for books there is really too many to count. I love the works of Stephen Pinker, Richard Feynman; mostly I read non-fiction science books but I've been getting into the founding of civilizations (such as Ancient Greece). If I had to give a top few it would be: The Skeptical Buddist, Emergency, Renewable Power without the Hot Air, Bad Science, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenanc, Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid, The Language Instinct, Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs, Growing Up With Lucy, The Pleasure of Finding Things Out, The Zombie Survival Guide, Calvin and Hobbes, A Travelers History of South East Asia.

I'm not that into movies or TV but there is a few things I love. Serenity, 28 Days Later, Memento, A Few Good Men, Fight Club, Unleashed, The Rain Man, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Warrior King, Firefly, Nathan Barley, The Day Today.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I sat atop a hill in the Kenya bush with nothing but shrubland till the horison. No hills, no buildings, no forests not even another bump on the landscape. I sat an watched the sub go down with a Tuska beer listening to the wildlife.

Countries I’ve Visited
