CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

How should I withold my soul so that it does not touch on yours? How could I uplift it over you to other things? Gladly, would I give it harbor in some unfamiliar, silent place that does not vibrate on where your depths vibrate. Yet, everything that touches us, you and me, takes us as a bow stroke makes of two strings, a single sound. On what intstrument are we two spanned. What Player holds us in His hand? O' sweet song!

translation of Rilke's Liebslied (Lovesong). That is the best statement of "all about me" that could be made. Rilke said it best.

PHILOSOPHY

"Im ain ani li, mi li? V'im ani rak l'atsmi, ma ani? V'im lo acshav, aimatai" (Hillel, from mishna Pirke Avot)

"If I am not me, who will be me? And if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?"

Enter into the universe of the other. The ultimate, trip, the ultimate journey, the perfect couch.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love to be with people. I love people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

all my life...

I am just discovering this site, literally, since the time I first arrived in Cologne, Germany, a few weeks ago.
My daughter had told me about it but previously when I had tried to search it on the internet all I could come up with were

businesses dealing with various kinds of "couches."
In Cologne, while surfing the internet, I accidently came onto it and just took a few seconds to do the minimal to put my
name on it and send a couple brief messages to people in Cologne.

One guy also helped me as you have by informing me that
there was a lot more of a "profile" that I ought to have up there. I hadn't even been aware of that, so I put in a few more
items about me.

Someone else in Berlin made me aware of how my profile is still too sketchy. Well, I know it is. It is just a chore to do "resumes." What I am now putting down is basically what this nice, caring person who made me aware of how I needed to say more motivated me to send to him. So I am just quoting from that section of my message to him on couchsurfers:

"...I have been a traveller since the time I was a young guy and the reason I like this site so much is that I have always let people who needed that, stay with me and when I have travelled I have always tried to travel in a way that would allow me to meet
individual persons, many of whom I stayed with in many areas of the world. So, if this site is about what it seems to be, then it may be what I have always been into, anyway.

I mentioned that I have dual Israeli/American citizenship. I lived in Jerusalem ten years successvively with my ex-wife and
we had two daughters born there. I still have an apartment in Jerusalem and I hope to go back there soon.

On this trip, I am coming from the USA, from Salt Lake City, where I was born.

I met my ex-wife in Japan and we travelled together througn several Asian areas on our way to Jerusalem: Saipan, Guam, Taiwan, Thailand, Maylasia, India and Nepal. When we visited the states from Israel we travelled through Cyprus, quite a few
of the Greek Islands and Italy. I made that trip through Greece and back to the states on my own again after we got divorced.

When I was in my twenties I went to Europe twice and travelled in England, Wales, Scotland, Belgim, France, Switzerland, Germany and
Holland.

I have lived in quite a few cities and towns of the USA.

I have never taken "tourist tours" and when I travel I tend to want to do it in a way that will keep me on the ground or on the sea as much as possible instead of in the air. I try use bicycle and buses or other forms of public transit which will allow me to be in part of where I am.

The reason for this is that for me, the "trip" is all about the people I meet and encounter and I want a "critical mass" of that experience.

In these travels with my ex-wife and kids or by myself, we or I "lived" in the countries, cities and towns we went through. We got involved with people, stayed with them, shared with them and invited them to visit us.

Many have stayed in my home from all parts.

But this is just the way we have always lived. Maybe that is something like "couch surfing."

You be the judge.

You know, I think that thanks to you, ***, I have just written my profile!

I really can only write anything serious if I am writing to or for a person and you have been that! So after sending this to you I think that I may just post the informational parts of it on my proflie!

That may save others the sense of vagueness about me that you experienced.

I am intending to stay in Berlin for at least another week and depending on...then very likely longer than that.
