ABOUT ME
Kev and Emma have just spent 3 months in Canada volunteering and couchsurfing. We stayed with some awesome people, helped train huskies to pull sleds, ate copious amounts of maple syrup and hitch-hiked the whole way.
Since then we've spent 3 months in Central America {Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica} learning Spanish, diving, hiking and catching chicken bus after chicken bus to get around.
Now we're ready to explore the Southern States! We're after national parks, the great outdoors, root beer, NASCAR, WWF and American football! And volunteering and couchsurfing along the way!
PHILOSOPHY
Kev - Tick the Boxes! If you've never done it and you'd like to, go for it today! The same opportunity might never come around again. life's so much more fun when you say yes.
Emma - not sure but i´m having fun working it out.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
When we're home, we have let people stay at our place.
In the Americas we have met some lovely people through staying in their spare rooms and exploring their 'back yard'.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Kev - stayed with some literally AMAZING, LIFE CHANGING PEOPLE around a few european countries while cycling, then some places in Asia, now Canada. so grateful for such a unique opportunity to meet some brilliant people. couchsurfed loads in the UK, France and Belgium and Holland; Bulgaria, Turkey, Hong Kong, and France again (loads of times, love it!).
I've hosted a few people from around the world: America, Australia, France, Taiwan, Switzerland, Czech Republic and SCOTLAND!
Made a few friends for life through this site - its a cliche to say "it changed my life", but it really has!
The VERY BEST thing is to go out and see the world. the next best is letting the world come and see you (even better if they can make a cup of tea).
I am CONSTANTLY surprised and impressed by the kindness of strangers.
In Canada we met some phenomenally nice people and were able to become 'part of the family', it was fantastic!
Emma - I am new to the couch surfing lark but so far so good. I am amazed how kind strangers can be and it´s really lovely to meet new people in new places. I have kept in touch with a few of the people we stayed with in Canada and so glad i let Kev convince me the site wasn't just weird.

Music, Movies, and Books
Kev -
Movies- I'm not really a film person, but I do adore Withnail and I. and City of God. and Napoleon Dynamite, ahahaha, I can quote alomost all of it.
Music - CHROMEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! amazing!
Books- I don't read as much as I would like to... My favourite book is Post Office by Bukowski, that speaks volumes. Roddy Doyle is brilliant too.
Emma - not Napolean Dynamite! Usually anything that will make me laugh, cry or think. I'm reading 'The God of Small Things' at the moment and the last film i loved was "Four Lions". I love loads of music, usually something i can sing or dance along to!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Kev - While cycling in Cambodia, I got lost, got a flat tyre, and began feeling pretty sorry for myself... I saw an abandoned train track and used it to try repairing my tyre. A wooden platform came flying accross the tracks toward me, with about 20 people squeezed on to it. The guys stopped, let me on, hugged me so I wouldn't fall off and the Bamboo Train carried me for a couple of hours. Got off and cycled to a village, I was lost, no one seemed to be able to help and the nearest hotel was (according to the hand signals, a long way away). Then one guy took pity on me and let me sleep in the school kitchen, unbelievable fun and good fortune!
Emma - how can this be written in one box?!
Teach, Learn, Share
Kev - My favourite slogan along these lines is:
"Talk to young people, they can teach you cool stuff you didn't know. Talk to old people, they can teach you cool stuff you didn't know".
Emma - I do lots of teaching at home (my job is 'teacher') but prefer to learn. I am always learning new "cool" words from the kids. Not all are good ones!
I have just learnt to speak Spanish so would like to keep practicing that and to better my riding (horses!). And if anyone needs to know how solve an algebraic equation, i can help. Wow - how very useful i am!
