About Me

I am a humble traveler looking for new wisdom and experiences. I gave up my apartment in December 2022 to walk the earth until I find whatever it is I'm looking for; blessing those I meet along the way: au pair/child care, ancient ruin repair, yoga, moving furniture, fresh perspective, and a variety of other seemingly random things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to meet the locals to find out where they eat, play, and relax. I like some of the touristy stuff, but also like relating with people to see how life really is in the places I visit. I like to cook and eat with others. It is a wonderful way to get to know them.
My mission is to see how I can bless people as I go.

Interests

It's fascinating to learn which types of construction have lasted through the years and how to replicate them using both old and modern techniques. I love to learn new and old styles of food growing and land stewardship.
Most of my growth thus far has been with personal development, authentic relating and learning to live a yogi lifestyle. I enjoy gaining fresh perspectives that challenge old beliefs.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy reggae, world, psytrance, EDM, folk, and foreign music. I love campfire songs and also kitchen dancing while I cook.

The last 2 months I read The Man Who Quit Money, and I'm now practicing Spanish with El Monje que Vendió su Ferrari. El Tercer Jesus by Deepak Chopra is probably next. I also enjoyed the Harry Potter collection, Dan Brown books, Siddhartha, The Four Agreements, Sex Lives of Cannibals, and my favorite: the Alchemist.

Most recent movies I enjoyed: White Noise, RRR, Stutz. Fantastic Fungi, Okja are up next, oh I don't often watch TV unless I'm quite bored, I'm with others who want to, or I see something that looks amazing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As I write this, I'm feeling the pain of hiking Cuevas de K’anba, swimming and diving at Semuc Champey Natural Monument, then touring Grutas de Lanquín and watching the bats exit into the night at dusk.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have helped people learn or improve English speaking skills and worked for one year as an educator at a Spanish/ English immersion elementary School. I worked with 3rd and 4th grade students most of the time, but also spent quite a bit of time in kindergarten classes.

I am a carpenter by trade and enjoy home maintenance and repair. I'm always finding things to fix 😁 Mending furniture, fixing doors, installing fences and such are usually pleasant distractions. Most recently, I repaired door jambs in an adobe sauna and a bamboo dormitory.

I enjoy attending festivals where I volunteer, often helping with yard work, kitchen help, and facilitating classes. The last retreat was at an Acro/tantra yoga festival where I helped prepare food for 150+ people. Before that was helping a couple move their retreat center in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Mexico, to a new location across town. Just before that I helped set up Casa Amor Holistic Temple retreat center in Mazunte, Mexico.

I traveled for 2 months with a most amazing Swedish family serving as an au pair for their 11-month-old daughter. I have enjoyed house sitting and pet sitting for a few people including a couple who live in Salt Lake City, Utah who own and run a trekking company in Nepal and spend several months each year traveling.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Sometimes it's helping to cook and clean, helping with house and yard maintenance, sitting around telling stories, child, plant, and pet care, language exchange. Friends call me their Wild Card as I seem to help with a variety of projects.
