Overview
About Me
Hi, my name is Kevin Murphy, and I am human of the planet Earth. I spend my time eating, sleeping, and moving my body. I enjoy contemplating and discussing ways to improve the way i do those three things. I believe compassion, simplicity, and patience are our greatest treasures.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I believe in minimalism, and simplicity. I've spent months living out of my backpack, and sleeping in hostels, or in my tent. Hotels are too isolated; they're like solitary confinement. They're also overpriced, tacky, and depressing. I would prefer to make a new friend and see a new city through their eyes. It's the people and community that bring a city to life. An entire city can be expressed through the interior design of a home and the people who grew up in it. Also, I never know where eat :)
Interests
I enjoy studying movement of all forms. I grew up training in gymnastics, then tried cheerleading, and evolved into parkour. I've also trained yoga, rock climbing, circus arts and ju-jitsu. If you're a teacher, or involved in any disciplines similar to this (such as: caporea, break dancing, ti chi, cross fit) I'd love to have a chat about the different styles, techniques, and lessons.
Other interests include camping and traveling (of course). I love being immersed in nature; sleeping with the trees and under the stars. But sometimes you need to see the city life as well. My aim is to bring the atmosphere of an evening campfire to the urban dinner table.

Music, Movies, and Books
Any adventure movie that inspires me to go out and take on the word: Into The Wild, The Last Samurai, Lord of the Rings, The Darjeeling Limited, Big Fish, Motorcycle Diaries, Forest Gump, Cast Away, The Grey, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or any syfi movie that makes me question everything I thought I knew: The Matrix, Star Wars, Gatica, Minority Report, Butterfly Effect, Terminator, I'm also a big fan of hard hitting documentaries: A Map for Saturday, Zeitgeist, Thrive, Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia, and anything by Anthony Bourdain, Morgan Spurlock, or Michael Moore.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
During 2013 I spent six months thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail (2,185 miles) from Maine to Georgia.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach basic to advanced tumbling and trampoline skills. I’m also a certified yoga instructor, and I know how to juggle and ride a unicycle, among other things.
