About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get enough tips from work to cover my expenses for my backpacking trip! Volunteering in a third-world country.

ABOUT ME

I am currently doing my internship in Lausanne, Switzerland. I am doing FNB service in a Hotel/Restaurant in Cully.

I have lived in Switzerland for 9 months now and I can speak basic French as my job requires me to speak to guests!

As I live in a small town, I travel whenever time allows me to. If I have three days off, I would travel to another city in Europe.

After travelling alone/with friends around many cities in Europe, I have come to realise the difference in perception I used to have about "Caucasian". As I was brought up in a conservative Asian family, I began to have an open mind about meeting people for the first time and that everyone is unique to their own behavior and preferences and that we should not judge somebody because of their skin colour or religious belief.I was not born to be open-minded, but it was when i live in Europe that made me more open to the world.

I love travelling, especially alone, to discover the culture and history of the city. I am interested in WWII history and have made an effort to go to major WWII museums and concentration camps to "relive" the moments spent by the soldiers and prisoners from the time. I should not say I "enjoyed" each tour of the camps or museums, but it was surely an enlightening moment for me each time.

I am ending my internship end of October and I have decided to go on a solo backpacking trip around 15 Cities in Europe before going back home to Singapore. From Prague to Budapest, I am travelling solo. I will meet my friends who lives in Vienna, and my girlfriend will join me from Venice on. It is both our first time trying CS and I am sure both of us would enjoy the company of hosts and the sharing of different cultures and experiences.

My backpacking plan for 31 days starting 28 October - 30 November:

Prague -> CS LISAKCZ
Warsaw -> CS greentea~
Krakow -> CS MnKrakow
Budapest -> CS SEARCH ONGOING
Vienna -> FRIEND'S APARTMENT
Venice -> AIRBNB
Florence -> AIRBNB
Rome -> AIRBNB
Athens -> AIRBNB
Lausanne -> MY APARTMENT
Zurich -> CS rudolfsuter

ADDITIONAL INFO
I am currently planning to look for a second internship in the United States as an FNB Management Trainee and I was hoping to go in January. That means that I would be home for a month and a half and I would be leaving home again for 1-2 years again. Homesick-ness has occurred to me occasionally but I am used to living alone without the company of my family or friends.

PHILOSOPHY

You have no control over people's actions, but you have control over your own attitude towards their actions.

Travel while you can, live as if you never lived.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have not tried CS but I had always been using AirBNB. That means I am used to/comfortable with living with strangers in the same apartment.

Right now I think it is time to move on to CS to get a better experience/interaction with my hosts!

It is the best way (I hope!) to get to know the culture and people of a city!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Decided to go on a trip for the next two days and booked everything the midnight before.

Graduated as a Naval Diver in the Singapore Armed Forces. (But we are NOT Navy SEALS).

Teach, Learn, Share

I studied Culinary so I am able to cook for you, BUUUUUUUUT! that does not mean I can whip up anything! What that means is that I am able to survive on anything that is edible and put them together as a meal. I won't admit that I'm an expert but I can make things that are edible!

Well, being a Chinese, I am able to teach you some Mandarin if you are interested!

Countries I’ve Visited

China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In

Singapore, Switzerland
