About Me
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I believe in helping people; many of us have more to give than we realize. Whether as a host or a surfer, it's more fun to meet people and make meaningful connections than to stare at the TV/phone/computer. We can also help each other save money, which is important as ever.
Music, Movies, and Books
Basically, I enjoy pop music that is older than 1989 in addition to jazz, world music, electronic, ambient, classical and notably Frank Zappa, the Doors, and ELO.
Movies? I like comedies. I tend to watch a lot of documentaries and their printed parallel: nonfiction books.
I have a lot of books. I've even read some of them. One of these days I'm going to finish the Comic Book Story of Beer.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
As a kid growing up in the flat lands of central Minnesota, I did not encounter mountains until young adulthood. So to me, they're pretty amazing. First seeing and hiking in the Tetons in Wyoming, driving up the switchbacks in Montana and wearing out my brakes driving through Arizona. A few years ago, I climbed an active volcano on the island of Bali in the early morning hours only to be greeted by hungry monkeys at the top. Back in the U.S., I hiked up Mt. Khatadin (in Maine) and walked along the "Knife's Edge" on a very windy day and did not fall!
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm a pretty damn good cook and I'm happy to whip up a meal or give you some vegan cookery tips if you are interested in that. I'm pretty knowledgeable on a variety of subjects (yay, liberal arts!), so intelligent conversations are definitely possible. If that's not your thing, maybe I could lead you in some vocal yoga or laughter yoga.
