About Me

Hi!! I'm Khalilah, 21 years old and from Boston, Massachusetts in the US. I am a lover of everything hair and beauty related. My signature hair style is a big, kinky, curly Afro! In my spare time, I create videos on YouTube (search KhalilahKJCurls) and run a blog too. It's been an amazing outlet for me as a naturally introverted person to learn how to share what I know and meet others.
I fell in love with travelling and other cultures when studying abroad in Madrid, Spain in 2015. My ultimate goal is to visit 30 countries by the time I am 30 years old....but it's looking like I'll be way ahead of schedule.
I'm not the type of person who you'll find surrounded by 20 people. I'd rather be surrounded by a few close friends that I have an amazing connection with! Not a crazy partier but I do love a good night out with good company! I love beauty (of course), food, museums (to a certain extent), learning about other cultures, and relaxing. I'm pretty organized and keep myself together whilest travelling by using an INTENSE spreadsheet (don't judge me!).
In 2017, I am hoping to go back to university to complete another degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. I also have a gray 1 year old cat named Radcliffe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In May 2016, I completed university a year early and decided to take a long term trip starting in Brazil. I've lived in one city for my entire life and my brief spurts of travel have made me addicted. I love staying in hostels and the energy there is amazing, but I also want the chance to view wherever I venture from a local perspective. It's important for me to understand some of the realities of life where I visit, the struggles, the joys, the history rather than getting caught up in being a tourist.

Interests

I love making YouTube videos so I spend a ton of my time recording, editing and sharing my videos with the world. I make weekly vlogs of my life and random things I get up to, so I'm often talking to a camera in my face. It's a strange habit now, and sometimes I catch myself saying things to the camera.....but the camera is nowhere in sight.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite book: Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Favorite Artist: Bob Marley (I have one of his lyrics tattooed onto my leg)
Favorite Movie: The entire Hunger Games series (also love the books)
Favorite TV: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
For TV, I love really goofy, silly shows. I try so hard to get into serious shows but they always end up stressing me out! TV isn't supposed to stress you out, that defeats the purpose!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travel through South America alone!

Teach, Learn, Share

I really would love to learn how to cook a meal from your culture! I am quite lacking in the cooking department, being a single student who's parents still cook for her! Would love to learn/exchange a bit of your native language (if it's not English, and you are comfortable with this).

What I Can Share with Hosts

Always willing to share what I know about hair, makeup, English language, social media, YouTube, blogging and cats.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Morocco, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, Switzerland

Countries I’ve Lived In

Spain, United States
