About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Traveling to Berlin and Brussels for a few weeks this winter.
If you are interested in staying with me, please tell me a bit about yourself and your experiences with Couchsurfing. Please read my profile and let me know why you think we would get along :)
ABOUT ME
A graduate student studying health policy and teaching math and physics!
I was born in Rangoon, Burma, and moved to Malaysia at age 10. There, I lived in Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur.
In the warmer months, I like to walk/bike around my city and take in the outdoors. In winter, I try to snowboard and snow shoe in the Sierra often. I love nature, animals, traveling, food, hiking, backpacking, learning, history, trying new foods and things, and hearing people's stories.
I try to be as politically and socially active as I can, although I find that I also need plenty of alone time. As much as I do love going out and exploring, I'm also content spending quality time with a friend making good food and listening to good music.
PHILOSOPHY
When I travel, I try to be respectful and mindful while enjoying new experiences. I find that travel can be absolutely transformative if we are open to challenging ourselves, our worldviews, and actively and attentively listen to what others have to teach us. I'm also trying to be better at traveling ethically and learning how to support locals more than corporations.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I don't want to be a tourist – I am a traveler! My goals are to:
-Learn from and benefit from your intimate knowledge of the places I visit;
-Hear about your life and how the history has affected you and those in your life;
-Get to know your favorite things about your neighborhood/ city/ state.
As a host, I aim to reciprocate in kind and share culture, hear the stories of travelers, and to try and help out fellow wanderlusts. Also, I can't travel very much right now, so it's a nice way to bring the travel stories to me.

Music, Movies, and Books
I realize that people say they like most music and are mostly lying to themselves, but I will say this anyway because I believe that there is something to appreciate about any type of music when artfully done. In western music, I mostly listen to indie and classic rock. But have been on a Janelle Monae kick lately :) Let's go and see live music together or check out a karaoke bar!
Also love reading. Send me your book recommendations, and I will add them to my list :) Currently awaiting Philip Rothfuss' third book in the Kingkiller Chronicles.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Climbed up the Russian nesting doll of volcanos in Lake Taal, Philippines, and swam in the lake!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to rock climb and make safe knots. I can edit your writing for you. I can tutor you in math and physics, depending on how much time we have!
I tend to pick up so many hobbies— not always successfully. So far these have included piano playing, snowboarding, ice skating, swimming, cooking, and learning more languages.
What I Can Share with Hosts
My culture (Burmese, Malay), philosophical musings, books, and friendship! I love meeting new people and hearing new perspectives, as well as experiencing new parts of the world and other cultures.
Here are some ways I can be helpful as a guest:
- Great help in the kitchen
- Clean up after myself and take up as little space in your home as possible
- I'll pay for gas and transportation costs if you take me places to show me around
- Animal lover. Will feed and walk your pets if you need
