ABOUT ME
Hey, my name's Kiel, and I'm a (currently) 27-year old from San Diego in California. I've been living in Asia for a while... a year as a student in Shanghai, and now a year and a half in South Korea (though I've been spending time in some other countries also0. I'm really the first person from my entire family tree to live in a country outside of USA ever since we immigrated here generations ago. I'm totally taking advantage of my time in Asia now and trying to see as much of the world as I can now!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
As of the time of this writing, I surfed the homes of a few wonderful hosts in Taiwan, and it really changed the way I see travel!
Interests
My interests are many; music is big, as I am a musician myself, and write and record and all that. Beyond that, skateboarding, rock climbing, writing, reading, politics and history are probably the other biggest ones, not to mention the obvious one of traveling.

Music, Movies, and Books
I mostly read non-fiction, history and political science, and so the idea of "favorites" doesn't really apply. I do like fiction as well, though, but my favorites aren't anything too special. Catcher in the Rye, etc.
With movies, I mostly like the works of directors who are a compromise between mainstream and art. David Fincher, the Coen Brothers, Wes Anderson . . . that sort of thing.
With music, I like indie rock first and foremost . . . my favorite bands could include Broken Social Scene, Wolf Parade, Pinback, Album Leaf, Sigur Ros, Flogging Molly, Blur, and a variety of others that don't sound like them.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Amazing? I don't know about that. However, one wild experience I had was in taking a river boat from the border of Northern Thailand and Laos down the Mekong River to the Lao town of Louang Prabang. It was supposed to be a two day one night trip, but the first afternoon our boat ran aground of the riverbed and broke, forcing us to camp out on the riverbank for the night. There was over 150 of us, and it ended up becoming a weird sort of beach party and was a fantastic time, despite being extremely cold in the deep night.
