ABOUT ME
I just deleted the line 'I am currently a student' as I am now a graduate! I try to travel as much as my limited funds allow and love meeting new people. I currently live and work in London, but my long term dream is living by the sea, maybe somewhere in South East Asia - maybe eventually opening the perfect backpacker hostel I always hope to find wherever I stay.
PHILOSOPHY
Sharing is caring!
"Not all those who wander are lost" - Tolkien.
"Focus less on the notion that the world is a dangerous place. The world can kill you in a heartbeat, whether you stay at home or leave home... think about the wider horizons, the wider possibilities in life, the trails taken and not taken, and be comfortable with uncertainty." - Paul Salopek
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I haven't hosted in a while as unfortunately I'm not a millionaire and so far all my house mates in London haven't wanted me to :( however, here's hoping one day I'll win the lottery and be able to get my own place and host again!
I think couch surfing is about more than just a free bed - for me it's about the connections you make.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've hosted a bit and surfed a bit. I love the extra insight you can get into a place from people who live there.
I guess the reason I like to host is that strangers all over the world have opened up their lives and homes to me - from the woman in Istanbul, a complete stranger showing us how to work the bus ticket machine, paying for our tickets, refusing payment and hurrying on her way, to the couple who lent us camping equipment while we were in Oman and when we arrived at their house, grubby and unwashed 7 days later they gave us free run of their shower/pool/beds for the night! So I think I owe a karmic debt of some kind.
Interests
Trying new things! As I write I am in a lot of pain from my first attempt at wakeboarding yesterday. Still, it was so much fun and such a rush standing up so I'll be going back once my muscles have recovered. I just moved near to a big park so I bought myself a pair of rollerblades off eBay for 99p - we'll see how that works out! I'm not a very good swimmer- been told I resemble a drowning dog- but I love being in the sea. I'm pretty outdoorsy, and enjoy hiking, climbing mountains (though less going down them... dodgy knees!) and camping on beaches. I yoga a lot, have recently gotten into bouldering (mostly indoors - there aren't too many rock faces in London!), read a lot, like hanging out with my friends, drinking, cooking (especially for other people), good food and enjoying the important things in life!
