About Me

Hello!

My name is Kim and I am 27 years old and am currently living in Paris! My roots are half Catalan half Dutch. I've lived mostly in Barcelona, Catalonia, but also have lived outside Spain for some periods (Holland, Malawi and France being my longest abroad experiences).

I have a bachelor's degree in Environmental Biology, a master’s degree on Education, a postgraduate in International Cooperation for Development, and I just graduated from my last masters in Globalisation and Development Studies in The Netherlands. I’ve worked for some years with environmental issues and youth but lately I’ve been more focussed in development projects in different NGOs and International Organisations. I currently work as a social worker accompanying refugees throughout their asylum procedures in France.

I am a very social, active and positive person and always enjoy meeting new people. I think getting to know different people, cultures and ways of living helps me to discover new thing about myself and my surrounding.
I am a very versatile person and I’ve always been involved in many different projects from different fields of interest. I love travelling and have had several international experiences related with social and cultural projects: Palestine, 2017; Malawi, 2016; India, 2012 and South America, 2010.
Music also plays an important role in my life. I started playing piano and singing at a choir when I was 8 years old and since then I’ve always been connected with music in one way or another. In my free time I also enjoy reading and writing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am in Couchsurfing because I think when travelling or being abroad, getting to know new people (and usually locals) is always a plus and makes any experience more enriching and positive! As I said, I love meeting new people as well as getting to know different cultures and ways of living!

Music, Movies, and Books

It’s hardly impossible for me to talk about “my favourite music”! I love all music, depending on the moment, my mood, the vibes… Superficially speaking I can say that I love Soul, Reggae, Singer-songwriters… Above all I love doing/sharing music with people, mainly singing! So it would be magic to share some music with you if you feel like and want to!

My favourite movies are also difficult to choose, but maybe I’d say: The Constant Gardener, Hotel Rwanda, The Piano, Gorillas in the mist…

And what to say about books!! I love reading. Lately I’ve been more into journalistic books, specially read a lot from Ryszard Kapuściński! I’d recommend “Ebène” if you haven’t read any of his books yet!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I consider myself a very lucky person! I’ve had an amazing childhood and youth thanks to my parents, the place I was born and all the people I’ve met during my life-path!

I think I’ve done pretty much amazing things but if I had to choose one I’d probably choose the “development volunteer experience in Malawi”!
In 2016 I had the opportunity to live in Malawi (South East of Africa) for three months! There, I stayed with a 12 people family and mainly developed an educational project teaching English and Science at Tsabango primary school in Lilongwe!
The amazing thing about it is the fact that I was teaching a group of 150 girls and boys between 7 and 14 years old and of course, you can imagine that the conditions weren’t at all the ones we (lucky people from the 1srt world) have! I’ve upload a picture of my students and the class in my profile for the ones who feel curious and want to see it!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am happy and open to share as much as I can with you all!
You can see from my profile that I am quite a versatile person, so maybe I haven’t gone very much in deep in any of the fields I’ve studied or the jobs I’ve done (since there is always a point in life where we all have to choose one path or another), but I’ve tried quite a lot of things!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will be pleased to share any of the things I have passion for with the hosts as well as learn about the things that are important for you and you feel like sharing!
