I'm Kim, an art history student from Nijmegen, the Netherlands. I enjoy meeting new people and traveling, and I'm especially passionate about music and art and learning about different cultures. I love wandering around cities, getting lost and discovering new places, learning new languages.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am now living in Rome and I want to explore Italy while I'm here. Sometimes I will make trips with friends but quite often I will also just go by myself. If I travel on my own I use couchsurfing, it is a great way to see new places and make new friends, it is much better than just staying in an airbnb by yourself. Right now I am also learning Italian and I think it's going quite well so I want to practice as much as I can.
I think it is really interesting talking to locals, discovering common interests and similarities and differences between our cultures. I want to learn a lot and get to know what life is like in a different country!

Interests

I love art, reading, going to parties, music, cooking and going to museums.
I used to volunteer at the animal ambulance in my city in The Netherlands, which was really fun!
I can spend days walking around Rone, being amazed by all the small side streets, people playing card games outside, discovering galleries and beautiful places.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:

I can appreciate almost everything, from electronical music to jazz to pop to hard rock. Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Waits, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Django Reinhardt, Queens of the Stone Age, Khruangbin, Fleetwood Mac, The Cure, David Bowie.

Books:
I normally read pretty much, but I don't have much time for reading because of my study. I do have a few books that I liked a lot; The Perfume, Lolita, De handelsreiziger van de Nederlandsche cocaine fabriek, De engelenmaker. (The last two are dutch books). I like modernist literature, writers like Virginia Woolf, as well as non-fictional books about the Victorian Era or about philosophy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I stayed up all night to watch the sunrise at the Colosseum just before a very goid friend of mine had to leave to catch the plane back home.
I saw 'A midsummer night's dream' by Shakespeare in Italian in the Globe Theatre in Rome
Went to Rome as an Erasmus student but after 6 months decided to move here for good

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell you a lot about art history and regular history and I can make a nice Indian vegetarian currie! I can also teach you a little bit of Dutch, even though it's quite hard.
