About Me

**WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING GUESTS THROUGH THE SUMMER (AT MINIMUM). UNTIL ALL OF US HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF COVID-19, WE WILL BE MAINTAINING A LOW PROFILE AND KEEPING OUR HOME OFF LIMITS TO OTHERS. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING. FEEL FREE TO INQUIRE ABOUT FALL AND WINTER DATES!**

I'm flexible, open-minded, accommodating, and basically unshockable. :) I currently work as the editor for a national special interest magazine. In the past, I've written grants, served a fulfilling year in AmeriCorps, and worked as an urban planner. I've also been a part-time yoga teacher who chants and plays harmonium. I'm a proud naturist and occasionally I write stuff that actually gets published. My dreams: to build viable, livable communities, to make a difference, and to connect with other souls and hearts through yoga and beyond. I'm also a bit of a dilettante and a dabbler: a wannabe artist, writer, musician.

I recently married and relocated to the Atlanta metro area, so I'm still having fun learning about my new home.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My couch is your couch. Be my guest and share your experiences with me. Let me be yours and I will do the same. I'll even bring chocolate.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Positive, positive, positive. I love having the company...but it makes me want to put on my travelin' shoes...!

Interests

I love (in no particular order) classical music, yoga, kirtan, animals (cats!), ballet, reading, caramel macchiati, chai, good coffee, food experiences of all kinds, exploring urban settings, drawing, historic buildings, the mountains, writing, daydreaming, hot tubs. And that's just for starters. I have this crazy notion of visiting every hot spring in North America and branching out from there...

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Too many. I admit to loving childrens' books...Le Petit Prince and The Velveteen Rabbit still bring me to tears.

Music: My particular passion tends toward classical (especially the romantics), some opera (check out the MetOpera HD in local theaters), spiritual/kirtan (Krishna Das, Trevor Hall, Sean Johnson and the Wild Lotus Band, etc.), Jacob Jeffries Band (a local favorite), some jazz and folk, and anything ear-catching that my kids or my husband (whose taste is quite eclectic) introduce me to. I also enjoy performing music as well as listening to it. I'm decent on the clarinet and recorder, passable on the piano. And I've become a harmonium-playing kirtan junkie looking for a place to play.

Movies: While I'm more of TV junkie (Law and Order--all versions--rules), I enjoy all kinds of movies except senseless slasher ones.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one?

The most amazing thing I've done is (attempt to) raise three totally unique and perfect individuals (corny but true.)

Meditating in a Korean Buddhist temple reigns as my most spiritual moment to date.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to do a Sun Salutation or how to play the harmonium and chant. Or bring your sheet music and let's duet!

My husband, Mark, can teach you more than you ever thought possible about medieval literature and craft beer. If any of my kids (now away from the nest) are visiting, expect to learn about cars, drums, chess, tech-y stuff, golf, hockey, fashion accessorizing, and more. We're a diverse bunch!

We are always willing and eager to learn something--anything--new.

WHAT GUESTS SHOULD KNOW

- The Atlanta metro area is heavily car-dependent; public transportation can be slow and unreliable. Since we live northwest of the city, you'll need some form of transportation to get around.
- We're in walking distance (about one mile) from Marietta's historic downtown, which, surprisingly, hasn't been overrun by chain stores. It's cute, funky, and boasts not one, but three, homemade ice cream shops...and a coffee shop that roasts its beans in-house! Our neighborhood recently got even cooler with a cat cafe, a brewery, and a retail/restaurant complex located off the square in a huge refurbished warehouse/storage building.
- The region offers all sorts of fun outdoor options. Kennesaw Mountain is nearby for hiking locally; if you travel just a little further, you can find waterfalls and water sports (canoeing, tubing, stand up paddleboarding). Plus the Appalachian Trail is about two hours away by car. For bikers and hikers, the Marietta portion of the M2R trail (Mountain to River) runs from Kennesaw Mountain through downtown Marietta and eventually connects to the Chattahoochee River trail.
- We're a clothing-optional family, although we'll never make anyone uncomfortable about it (just tell us your preference).
- That being said, we also have an awesome hot tub, which is also clothing optional.
- We live with two super-sweet cats.
- Our guests will have a queen-sized bed and bathroom for their use. We also have a fold out couch and air mattresses for overflow guests.
- We are open to all expressions of gender, race, sexuality. We welcome anyone with a kind heart, intrepid spirit, and a passion for life. Conversely, uninformed biases and bigotry of any kind have no place in our home.
