About Me

I can't keep myself from checking to see what's on the other side of the next hill. I can easily take my work with me as long as I get phone reception...so I do...often! I travel mostly in the U.S. in my red Jeep Commander (Rocinante), solo and on a budget. We have an amazing country, and I love meeting and talking to folks about their lives and businesses.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I usually camp, but if I'm gone more than a couple of weeks at a time if gets old! Especially if the weather is too hot or too cold. A cousin suggested I try couchsurfing, and I'm looking forward to it. I also hope to do some traveling overseas, and I think couch surfing would make it financially possible. Not to mention the fact that I would be able to meet real people wherever I do, instead of lurking on street corners. Lol!

Interests

I love the arts of all kinds: fine writing, visual art, dance, theatre...all of it. I am a poet in addition to being a business writer and editor, which is how I make my living. I play guitar a little and recorders a little more (sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor and bass). I love history, culture and nature, too. I often write about and take photos of national and state parks where I visit. My vision for life is peace, both personal and global.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of music. If it's live, I'm likely to love it even more. My favorites are indie, classic rock, classical, blues and bluegrass. I play Irish and Renaissance music mostly, but looking to branch out.

I'm a movie freak, but don't ask me trivia! My favorites are historical fiction, science fiction and fantasy. I can't stand stupid humor and horror.

Books: I read all kinds, and don't really have a favorite genre. Although I'm known for my love of fantasy fiction. I often read whodunits and business philosophy books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2012, I got divorced, sold my house, sent my kids to college and held my cat in my arms as he died. I swore I would never own another house, so I bought a Jeep instead. A client wanted me meet her in Florida (a couple thousand miles away), so I decided to drive instead of fly. I didn't go home for six months. I traveled 14,000 miles in 15 states, with a temperature span of more than 100 degrees. The next three years, I was on the road for about 60% of each year, coming and going to my home base, often gone several months at a time. I'm hooked and don't ever believe I'll stop.

Teach, Learn, Share

Everyone has to communicate, so words are one of the most powerful things in the world. Do you remember the story of Thomas Paine and the tract he wrote that turned around the U.S. revolution more than 200 years ago? That was my inspiration. In my work, I help people say what they mean...in such a way that their ideas get to the brains of others intact. I love to inspire others to write, too.

I am a voracious learner. I'm curious about places and things and times. When people want to share, I am respectfully and appropriate curious about their lives and what's important to them. I feel as though every person I connect with helps weave a web that strengthens the world.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I usually have at least one instrument with me, so I can share music, along with poetry and stories. Most of my stories aren't written down yet, but I've documented some of my travels at roadworkwriter.wordpress.com. I'm a hard worker, and always willing to pitch in with dishes, cleaning and errands. If you need help with a resume, I'm always doing that for free. I don't have a lot of money to give to charity, but I can help others find jobs.
