CURRENT MISSION: "One Less Stranger in the World"

Life hurts, love surprises – sometimes all we can do is hold on and try to find joy in the journey. 🤙🏻

Longing for Escape: The only way out is forward. No looking back – this life isn't meant to be lived in one place. 🌎

About Me

I am a natural-born Filipino who likes to face the world with positivity and enthusiasm. I am eager to face challenges especially when it comes to traveling and about talks of life. I always believe that as long as you keep on holding to God you will always be happy and will never be sad.

I often wondered why the earth’s horizon seems so near but yet so far (sounds so silly hahaha). It makes me reflect that outside my country there is a vast world where everything is new and different and I need to explore and experience it.

I have numerous things to consider in my life after a thorough evaluation of my passions and one thing is for sure, traveling is on top of my list. I like to recollect all my travel experiences and share those times when my travels gave me a chance to meet new people I wouldn't normally have had a chance to talk to. Traveling made it possible for me to meet one less stranger in the world.

GO TRAVEL... You know why?

1. Traveling pushes you to act.

Its very simple to just go with the flow and follow what is the will of the wind. That is the reality that bites. But, when you travel you act. Traveling engages you to decide on when, where and how to act on all your decisions. It charges your life with amazing opportunities and adventures which you yourself is the sole actor. It forces you to be dynamic in your life by learning to live life to the fullest without anyone telling you on what to do. Because of this, you will learn to decide on small things that will surely boost your confidence in whatever life's challenges bring.

2. It creates another comfort zone.

Things that give thrills and excitement to your life are those that you eagerly long for. These things don't come in a mundane routine that you always repeat in your whole life every year, day after day. Traveling urges you to be more strong and build another comfort zone. When you travel, you grow, this is due to the new things that you encounter which help you to evolve beyond your capabilities. This new culture and challenge open your insight towards broader thinking. The 9-5 work schedule of every people around the globe forces you to play safe which in turn isolate you from new opportunities. This means you need to act as early as now.

3. You will know what you don't know about yourself.

If you go the off beaten path all by your own, you will learn to discover yourself. This will implicate both the old you and the new you. You can have a journal and write things that pop out of your mind without the influence of anyone else. Imagine writing your thoughts while looking at the stunning Angkor Wat or the Sunset at Bagan. This mindset will make you free and more adaptable to every situation. You will discover that you have a hidden talent or skills that you kept ignoring. Also, you will learn to appreciate things within your periphery more than before.

4. It will be one less stranger in the world.

If you are in a foreign place with a language you don't speak you would probably rely on your gut and instinct on deciding. By this, you will learn to trust other people more, based on your own judgment. This will pave the way for a new friendship in any walks of life making it another one less stranger in the world. You will learn to appreciate their own culture, traditions, and rituals. You will find out that the things they are doing may bring interest to your own self. This will lead you to new career paths that will definitely entice your life.

5. You will be more eager in your life.

The 9-5 world will never change but "don't be stuck in a rut". If you travel and see that the world offers more than the book says you will definitely be delighted. Traveling will give eagerness in your life and will trigger the pursuit of happiness. Seeing people happy even just for simple things will uplift your inner joy. You will realize things that come in small packages are the best gift. Also, being lost in a crowded place with strangers around will absolutely give a chill to your body.

Intereses

Blogging: Travel has always ignited a spark in me, ever since my first adventure abroad. My sister's words resonated deeply: "A stamped passport is a journey that never ends." This inspiration fueled my passion for writing, leading me to create the "Asian Drifters" blog – a platform to share my experiences and fuel the wanderlust in others! https://theasiandrifter.com

Traveling 1: The Travel Bug Bites

My first family trip in 2013 sparked a lifelong passion for travel. We journeyed to Taiwan, and from that moment on, I knew I'd never stop exploring. There's a thrill in venturing beyond the horizon, a feeling that the world is inviting me to uncover its hidden wonders.

Traveling 2: A Tri-City Adventure

In 2014, my mother, brother, his girlfriend, and I embarked on a whirlwind adventure through Singapore, Johor (Malaysia), and Batam (Indonesia). This tri-city tour showcased the diverse cultures and vibrant energy of Southeast Asia.

Traveling 3: Exploring Hong Kong and Shenzhen

My third family travel experience took place in 2015 with just my mother and me. We enjoyed a private tour of Hong Kong's most iconic spots and ventured on a half-day excursion to Shenzhen, China. These memories hold a special place in my heart.

Traveling 4: A Bittersweet European Dream

2016 brought a bittersweet but deeply meaningful European adventure. After obtaining my first Schengen Visa, my mother, two sisters, their husbands, and I visited my brother-in-law in Slovenia. This trip holds a cherished place in my heart as it was the last journey with my mother before she passed away. I'll forever treasure the memories we made, especially fulfilling her lifelong dream of visiting Rome.

Traveling 5: Finding Solace in the Maldives

In 2017, during the month following my mother's passing, my sisters and sister-in-law took a restorative trip to the Maldives. Experiencing the pristine beaches and turquoise waters offered a sense of peace and healing.

Traveling 6: A Dreamy US and Canada Adventure

My sixth family travel experience, in 2019, was an unforgettable journey to the United States and Canada. This was a dream come true for one of my sisters, and I was grateful to join her and experience the vibrant cities and diverse landscapes. My sister-in-law expertly guided us through DC, New Jersey, New York, and Toronto. I'm deeply thankful for the incredible opportunities that came my way, even after experiencing loss.

Traveling 7: A Taiwanese Family Reunion

Also in 2019, I joined my sibling's family on a trip to Taiwan. My sister had made Taiwan her home, and she wanted to treat my brother with a special trip. As we revisited popular destinations, I enjoyed seeing the amazement and joy in my brother and his family's eyes.

Traveling 8: The Wonders of Australia and New Zealand

My eighth international trip was with my sister and her husband to Australia and New Zealand. In Australia, we enjoyed relaxed wine tastings with my sister's friends. We then embarked on a road trip from Christchurch to Queenstown, New Zealand. Queenstown's breathtaking landscapes and rich biodiversity left me utterly awestruck.

Traveling 9: A 2023 European Extravaganza

My ninth family travel experience in 2023 was a refreshing and unforgettable adventure. We visited Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Giethoorn, Prague, Santorini, Athens, Milan, Lauterbrunnen, Zurich, and Lucerne. My medical doctor sister-in-law also joined us, making the trip even more lively and fun. This 14-day journey was full of laughter, exploration, and memories that I will always cherish. I feel fortunate to experience the world on a budget and with the warmth of family by my side.

Backpacking 1: Discovering Southeast Asia

My backpacking journey began in the heart of Southeast Asia, in the captivating countries of Cambodia and Vietnam. It was here that I learned the true meaning of following your passions. From getting lost amidst the ancient temples of Angkor Wat to navigating the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh City, my budgeting skills and ability to communicate were constantly challenged. It was an adventure that ignited my wanderlust.

Backpacking 2: A Solo Flight Through Europe

My second backpacking adventure took a bold turn as I embarked on a solo journey through Europe. In just three days, I traversed three incredible countries: the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. My first Couchsurfing experience in Amsterdam holds a special place in my heart. I wandered through the charming streets of Brussels and spent an unforgettable night in a Berlin hostel where I formed a lasting friendship with a Slovakian couple.

Backpacking 3: Immersing Myself in Southeast Asia's Diverse Cultures

My third solo backpacking trip was an odyssey through Southeast Asia. I touched down in Bandar Seri Begawan, Kuala Lumpur, Yangon, Vientiane, Bangkok, and Hanoi. From sharing a break-of-fast meal with my Airbnb host in Brunei to exploring the vibrant streets of Kuala Lumpur with my Couchsurfing host, Qihan, I embraced the warmth of Southeast Asian hospitality. Yangon struck a chord with its resemblance to my hometown of Cagayan de Oro. With guidance from my hosts in Vientiane, I experienced authentic Laotian life. Bangkok offered insider tips and affordable adventures, while Hanoi provided a cozy hostel and easy navigation with offline GPS.

Backpacking 4: Falling in Love with Japan

My fourth solo backpacking expedition led me to the enchanting city of Fukuoka, Japan. Exploring the city and witnessing the unique blend of old and new in Mojiko Retro was unforgettable. My Couchsurfing host, Yoshi, made the experience even more special with his incredible hospitality.

Backpacking 5: A European Pilgrimage

My fifth backpacking adventure transcended the typical backpacking experience and turned into a spiritual pilgrimage. I journeyed through six countries – Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland – and had the privilege of attending mass in six different languages. This trip was a testament to my belief that anything is possible with determination. To top it off, a luxurious upgrade to Business Class on Emirates Airlines made it an unforgettable experience. It was also heartwarming to reunite with the Slovakian couple I met in Berlin years before. I am eternally grateful for everything this trip bestowed upon me.

Backpacking 6: A South Korean Whirlwind

My sixth backpacking trip was a whirlwind adventure in Busan, South Korea. Despite only having two days, I managed to explore Busan's most famous tourist attractions. My host, Chan, went above and beyond, offering me his beautiful condo and a delicious Korean food experience filled with bibimbap. Busan's charm left me wanting more, and I hope to return someday.

Backpacking 7: Japan, Take Two

My seventh backpacking journey marked my return to the mesmerizing country of Japan. This time, I explored the cities of Osaka and Nagoya. Nagoya's beautiful temples showcased the uniqueness of Japanese culture, while Osaka offered relaxation, mysteries, and delicious food. I was consistently impressed by the unwavering kindness and helpfulness of the Japanese people.

Backpacking 8: Fukuoka Revisited

My love for Japan drew me back to Fukuoka in 2023. This time, I felt a deeper spiritual connection with the city, and it continued to bring me joy and unforgettable experiences. The ramen in Fukuoka is something I'll dream about for years to come.

Backpacking 9: Hong Kong and the Wonders of Macao

After finding an amazing deal on a flight to Hong Kong, I seized the opportunity to explore both Hong Kong and take a day trip to the captivating Macao. Hong Kong evoked bittersweet memories of exploring the city with my mother. Macao captivated me with its blend of Portuguese influences and recreations of iconic European landmarks.

Backpacking/Business Trip 10: My business trip turned into an unexpected backpacking adventure! Representing my company at a Fintech Summit in Dubai, I had the exciting opportunity to showcase our product to a global audience. Afterward, I embarked on a whirlwind side trip to Chennai, India, where my gracious host, Lokesh, ensured my 19-hour stay was packed with cultural immersion and delicious local cuisine. My journey ended with a luxurious layover in Singapore, where I made the most of the airport lounge's amenities before heading home. This unique blend of business and backpacking was a fantastic way to experience new cultures and expand my horizons, all while fulfilling my professional commitments.

Música, películas y libros

Music: Alternative Vibes, My music taste leans heavily towards alternative rock. Here's my mini-playlist of favorites:

- "Sick Cycle Carousel" by Lifehouse (Always gets me pumped up!)
- "Our Lives" and "Stigmatized" by The Calling (That angsty energy is my jam)
- "Love Hurts" by Incubus (A classic for those moody moments)
- "Somewhere in the Middle" and "Every Little Thing" by Dishwalla (Major nostalgia with these)

Movies: A Selective Watcher, I'm not a huge movie buff, but when I do watch, I like a good dose of sci-fi and action. Here's what's on my list:

- "The Martian" (Loved the book AND the movie adaptation)
- "Jumper" (Hayden Christensen teleporting? Sign me up!)
- And if we're talking series, I'm all about "Teen Wolf" – True Alpha status, right here!

There's nothing like the thrill of a world turned upside down, and some of my absolute favorites include James Dashner's The Maze Runner, Marie Lu's The Legend Trilogy, and Veronica Rossi's Under the Never Sky. These books offer a mix of mystery, rebellion, and heart-pounding action that will keep you hooked. Teach: "I'd love to teach you some Tagalog and Cebuano – our dialects are fascinating, and they reflect our history, especially with the influence of Spanish colonization. We could even do a language exchange! Maybe you can teach me a bit of your language too. I'm also happy to share insights into my work if you're interested. I believe sharing knowledge is the best way to learn and grow!"

Learn: Traveling the world has opened my eyes to something profound: our purpose as humans might be to truly connect with the world around us. The breathtaking landscapes, diverse cultures, and incredible creatures all point to the amazing gifts God has bestowed upon us. It's a humbling realization that we're just stewards of this planet, and it becomes our responsibility to protect these natural wonders for generations to come.
